Jace Wayland

So when Clary's mother is kidnapped and her apartment is destroyed by a demon, Clary gets sucked entirely into this hidden world.

She meets Jace Wayland, an arrogant, fiercely skilled Shadowhunter, and the romance that brews between them is electric and deeply fraught.

The world building mechanism in The Mortal Instruments revolves heavily around runes.

Shadowhunters draw these angelic symbols under their skin using tools called stellas.

And they have powers, and they have these magic, they can, like, draw things on them called runes that give them magic powers, all these sorts of things.

And she meets one of these Shadowhunters called Jace, played by Jamie Campbell Bower.

Ooh.

Yeah.

I see them together.

Yeah.

So Jace and Clary meet.

He kind of, like, looks after her and takes her into, like, this secret world of Shadowhunters.
