J. Luke Wood

The Hornet Nation, as I want to call them, they showed up for me.

and we loved it environment was great my first ever hornet walk was great i had my family look sharp coach you look sharp out there you know how to come with it you know and then of course my big brother mc hammer showed up you know he was there on the sideline with his family just just great just all my children everybody it was it was it was a wonderful environment and i just really really grateful For Dr. Luke Wood and Mark Orr for giving me the opportunity to lead this program.

First ever FBS win.

First ever FBS hosted game here in Sacramento State.

Yes, there's going to be some growing pains in this.

But I saw the president, Luke Wood, the other day right before the game with Mississippi Valley State.

And you see what happened with them, 52-0 thrashing of that HBCU school from the

SWAC, you know, the Southwest State.

uh 25 26 million dollars maybe uh evened out at 30 you know towards the end they're paying for uh the traveling expenses for the mac to travel out here as we know most of those teams is from the uh midwest but it seems like they're making all the right decisions and i i really do hope they get there you know but it's going to be some trying times there's going to be some bumps and you know some peaks and valleys uh But we'll see, we'll see.

I just can't really put my finger on it.

But what I do know about Luke Wood, he's doing everything possible to make this happen as far as the sports community, the athletic community, the collegiate community.

Now, I would have to say him and his twin brother, When I was finishing up at Sac State, they were there at the time.

I mean, it was such a surreal moment, just a great opportunity.

You know, the president was there, Dr. Luke Wood, as well as Mark Orr and all the administrative team, the ones that hired me and gave me that opportunity.

It was just great leading the team out.

Just a lot of support.

Just a great opportunity.

And hopefully, hopefully, Sac State can get that first win of the season against Mississippi Valley State.

But this is going to be one of the visions coming to life for Dr. Luke Wood and for Mark Orr, you know, having an HBCU here in Sacramento.

I don't think that has happened before.

ever, I think, in the city's history.

And the administrative load thing is valid.

There's not a ton of super reliable research on that, but I can tell you for a fact that Anybody listening to this can go look up their local public university and see a lot of names on the work chart of like vice presidents.

It's usually like the vice president level with long titles.

Plus they got people called

So typically you have a president, you have a vice president of instruction, a vice president of student services, and then maybe a vice president of administration, like the business services, the HR, the keeping the lights on and all that.

But again, most colleges these days go way, way beyond that.

If you look at the exec team, you will see vice presidents with really long, complicated titles.

And I have to tell you, there is a joke among some faculty that I've talked to or saying, I should say, not really a joke, that the longer and more elaborate a person's title is, the less they actually do.
