J. Edwin Orr, who's the historian of revival, he considers this mighty movement of God's Spirit in the early 1900s that began in Wales as the most extensive revival movement of all time so far.

Evan Roberts prayed, "Lord, would you bend me, bend me, bend us, bend the church to your will, to live for your glory?" And God answered that prayer.

Within the first eight weeks of this move of the Spirit, let me get my numbers right, over 70,000 people had turned to Christ.

Yeah, open confession can be problematic, especially when the things that you need to confess should be probably very personal to an individual.

I remember in the time of revival, J. Edwin Orr writes about a particular pastor who was leading a congregation, and people were confessing their sins, and one lady stood up and says, I confess to having adultery with the pastor.

And the pastor was embarrassed.

I've never even seen you.

This work of God was carried on and the number of true saints multiplied and soon made a glorious alteration to the town so that in the spring and summer following, that was 1735, the town seemed to be full of the presence of God.

Edwin Orr, who lived in revival days, described it in these terms, a movement of the Holy Spirit bringing about a revival of New Testament Christianity in the Church of Christ and its related community.

Well, in our series, Awake People of Prayer, we've been looking at prayers for revival.

And today we're considering Psalm 85.

And in that same year, in the 19th century, a revival broke out in England too.

It's called the Great Evangelical Awakening.

And Dr. Edwin Orr estimates that one million people were converted at that time.

And as I said, in the 20th century, there was revival in Wales and Lowestoft in the Hebrides.
