The launch represents a more important test for autonomous vehicles in one of Europe's largest and most complex urban transportation environments and could eventually reshape ground transportation for both residents and business travelers.

Uber has also partnered with an Indian online travel company, Ixigo, to bring train tickets directly into the Uber app.

Travelers can now book rail tickets and arrange ground transportation to the departure station and from the arrival station within a single digital experience.

The integration builds on Uber's growing intercity transportation offering in India, which already includes cab rentals and long-distance bus services.
