Iwi

Like the question Scotty said when he said something like, do you think you've failed Māori people? And Tama Potaka said no.

And I think he conceded that there'd been challenges and then quickly said, but Iwi leaders are still calling me.

Like, I think he's not doing himself any favours by downplaying how fraught race relations has been in the last three years.

What he tends to do when he's challenged is make a little thing like, oh, you know, there's been some challenges, but Iwi leaders are calling me.

And no one watching at home is going to be like, oh, okay, sweet.

We must be all good.

The Super Fund, its long-term role is supposed to be about smoothing the long-term gaps of health care and providing health care to our aging population.

And then the other major investor is the Ontario Teachers Pension Plan, along with an Iwi investor called Te Pue Ta Pa Pa.

That was a $550 million deal.

And just like the TPG deal that we discussed, it was largely debt financed, $325 million worth of debt.

At the centre of the exhibition is a historic keitaka or ornate cloak named Uhenga Paraiawa.

It once belonged to the iwi but is now held in the museum's collection.

Iwi member Maui Hudson says the connection between the cloak and the people really brought the event to life.

One of the challenges with something like the kaitaka is that it's the loss of connection.

and the loss of the relationship that's usually associated with it.

Yeah.

So an example of that is we're working with an Iwi at the moment who has a desire to support its own tribal members with a loan product that aligns with its values, its strategy, all of the good things.

But that Iwi has no desire to be a lender because...

Lending is awful, actually.

Awful.

Right, I'm going to rebrand.

It's going to be pink now, not green.

So I think the Iwi want to lend to their tribal members, but they want some distance between that transaction because the finance of that doesn't feel like something that they want to be involved in.

Um, so you'd have a local high school, but you'd have a local hub, health hub to go to.

And one of the big ideas is, in one of the th- [laughs] in the primary care space, um, that we've looked at over the last couple of years and visit, and places we've visited, Iwi are leading out in that area.

So we posit the idea why not let Maori take over the primary healthcare system, you know? Because they have a set of relationships, they have a, uh, an organization already in place, and I think they're doing primary care, um, better than anybody else.

So that's another big idea that we throw out there too, and they're also not-for-profit organizations.

Uh, so a bunch more article has happened.

Um, we're picking up here, he says, uh, he said, "Iwi were already working on their own solutions, listing developments currently underway in Rotorua, T- [laughs] Tauhara, Tirewhiti, and Tauranga by Iwi or Maori-led groups." That wasn't so hard.

That wasn't so hard.

I think we're just getting better.

And even though we had many gods, our religion wasn't correct.

Now, I've talked to Iwi leaders.

I've talked to the Queen, Maori Queen, and everybody else.

And I've stated my truth personally and publicly to them to let you know that you're worshipping the wrong gods.
