Ivor Warne-Smith

We talked about Melbourne versus Essendon.

We talked about Ivor Warne-Smith.

We talked about some notable events and births and deaths and activities in that year.

And we're going to pick things up at the start of that calendar year in 1926 with one or two little snippets from the McKenzie chronology, things that are happening abroad, Scott.

So for much of the second half of that game, Melbourne have 17 men against Essendon's 18.

And they sort of penny pinch by playing one of their great players, Ivor Warne-Smith, sort of at centre half forward, sort of in the centre.

Late in the game, scores are pretty tight.

Essendon's making a charge.

And they fought great adversity throughout their lives.

And I repeatedly came back to this position where I lament either the complete absence of figures like this in today's society, or my lack of recognition of people of this character in today's society.

I really started, when I was reading about Ivor Warne-Smith, Ivor Warne-Smith, I thought, oh, how many Warnes could there be? I wonder if this chap is linked in any way with Shane Warne.

And he's not.
