North Kivu, in a province called Ituri, all of those outbreaks were stopped.

Each one was a tragedy, but each one was also a village or a hospital or a town, remote, contained, and eventually controlled.

Then came December 2013.

They had beaten Ebola and they were told to live with it.

Which brings us to 2026.

On April 24th, in Bunya, in the Ituri province of the Democratic Republic of the Congo, a nurse fell ill.

Fever, vomiting, bleeding, crushing weakness.

The mission continues to encourage members of armed groups to lay down their weapons and pursue peaceful reintegration.

Staying in the Democratic Republic of the Congo, our humanitarian colleagues are gravely concerned about the situation at the Plain Savo Displacement Site in Ituri Province, where armed clashes are putting tens of thousands of displaced people at risk.

At least three displaced people have reportedly been killed and five others injured since Tuesday.

While fighting near the site today has trapped families, the violence has also disrupted humanitarian operations, forcing the suspension of water, health and nutrition services for some 76,000 people who rely on assistance at the site.

But here's what you actually need to know.

The Democratic Republic of Congo has confirmed a new Ebola outbreak in the country's northeast, in Ituri province.

Health officials say it involves the Bundibujo strain of the virus, which is a less common strain and one for which there is currently no approved vaccine.

Now, yes, Ebola is dangerous.

Them along with pregnant women who are also normally excluded and a lot of the times they're left out of these trials and they say it's because of safety but also they're the people that are the most vulnerable and at the highest risk of death from some of these diseases.

A total of 189 children have died in the latest Ebola outbreak in Eastern Democratic Republic of Congo, while thousands more are living with trauma and in need of mental health support, according to Save the Children's latest report released on Wednesday.

The aid agency says more than 4,000 children in Ituri, the epicenter of the outbreak, are receiving psychosocial support after many witnessed illness, death and displacement.

These Congolese children are re-entering the world after five days of isolation.

There is a gap of two billion dollars.

We are calling our partners to fulfill their commitment because yes, there is, we saw an improvement in Ituri, but we see that there is a shift of the epicenter from Ituri to North Kivu.

And we don't want to see this outbreak spreading to other countries.

And this is why we really need this support now.

We see some decreasing in terms of number of cases.

But we remain very cautious regarding this improvement because we are still seeing some alarming and concerning situation in North Kivu and also in a few health zone in Ituri like Mandima, which is a very close to Benin, and this is also where we are seeing an increasing number of cases.

So right now, we have more than 8,600 confirmed cases with over 4,000 deaths among confirmed cases, which brings the mortality rate to around 48%.

Unfortunately, we have more than 2,000 recovered people, but we are still lagging behind regarding contact tracing.
