It Was Written

But there is... a purpose to it.

And I used to get so mad when Nas' It Was Written came out.

they put the whole thing on one vinyl.

And like that shit sounded like ass.

Chronic was wild.

Illmatic, it was written, I consider that as one.

That's unfair to judge both of those albums.

That's one album to me.

So I'm going with Nas.

because

I actually like that better than the first album.

Uh, so he's got one, two, three, four, five, six albums that are, um, all made it to number one on the Billboard album chart.

Um, the biggest one was It Was Written, uh, from 1996.

That spent four weeks at number one and 34 total weeks on the chart.

I Am..., The Firm, Hip Hop Is Dead, Untitled, and Life Is Good all went to number one, um, uh, at various times.

God's Son from 2002, also 1.15 million albums.

I Am... from 1999, 2.2 million.

This album, Illmatic, 1994, 2.4 million, and It Was Written from 1996, 3.3 million albums.

So, uh, even though he got beat out by Biggie for the, you know, some of the awards and, and, and accolades at the time, he still was doing okay.

What he's done, what he's been able to build from Queensbridge projects to the world.

Way that, may that be Illmatic, It Was Written, I Am, Nastradamus.

I don't like Nastradamus at all.

You know what I mean? But God's Son, multiple albums, the N album, you know what I mean? The, the whole series with Hit-Boy and all of that.

What else is in that top five besides Hell on Earth?

Damn, man, this is a, you know, the, the, this is, um, liable to change at any given point, but I would say Hell on Earth, War Report, Liquid Swords, It Was Written, and yo, probably The Chronic.

Well, I mean, those aren't bad picks at all.

Now, with It Was Written, I know you're just a little bit younger than me, so I think you didn't feel the same way I felt when that album first came out because, you know, I was, you know, Team Illmatic, if you will.

That album has gotten so much better with age, It Was Written, and I go back to it and I can't believe how much I hated on that album.

But were you ever, like, in your mind, is it that much better than Illmatic, or is it just the album you prefer over the two?
