And then he leaves and he goes to, uh, eat some bad fish or, or something.

America in the grip of a foreign power.

We're talking about the Israel lobby, and even as American public opinion has dramatically shifted against Israel during the course of the American and Western-facilitated Israeli genocide against the Palestinian people, still the US, both parties, continue to further the interests and promote the interests and defend the interests of Israel as it has committed a livestream genocide.

And every war crime and crime against humanity it's possible to commit, none of which is possible without the support, the unparalleled support.

There's no other comparison in terms of the support that the United States gives to Israel in terms of military support, aid, and so on as a combined package.

Now, I mean, i- in the, the subtitle actually speaks for itself, America in the Grip of a Foreign Power.

What does that actually mean? Let's just in terms of what the, the book actually argues.

What, what basically, I guess, is what can Israel or what, what can the Israel lobby do that makes the United States do something it wouldn't otherwise be doing, if you like?

Yeah.

And what that shows isn't that these presidents didn't have agency, but that the lobby did have an enormous capacity, uh, and really a one-sided ability to bring pressure onto presidents to shape their decision-making in a manner that brought in concerns about domestic political repercussions, uh, but in doing so, steered them away from the strategic, uh, and security-oriented policies that they wanted to pursue.

Now, again, that doesn't remove any agency from these presidents, but it does show how, uh, a lobby that is largely aligned with a foreign country can operate when there is absolutely, at least historically, nothing to counterbalance its influence inside the halls of power.
