Isle of Portland

Here is a sound recording made the first week of May.

I was on the Isle of Portland in Dorset in rare windless conditions.

Enjoy the sound of the sea on the rocks and some beautiful skylarks." [waves crashing]

That's beautiful.

Right.

And he named it after the building stone quarried on the Isle of Portland because it looks similar.

But how do we actually manufacture this fine powder today?

Well, it's a highly controlled manufacturing process and it happens in either a wet or a dry state.

Sadly, it was another defeat for the Rockies on the roads this afternoon in their bank holiday Monday fixture against Portland United.

A crowd of 396 watched the game on the island, but Shaftesbury couldn't turn around their current run of misfortune.

The final score, Portland United 2, Shaftesbury 0.

It seems every month, dozens of Wiltshire residents living just over the Dorset County boundary are paying £8.50 every time they visit Shaftesbury's Household Recycling Centre at Wincolm, which is in the Dorset Council area, even though they pay council tax towards waste services in Wiltshire.

So I wanted to become an on-call firefighter initially.

So I was a car mechanic.

I'm kind of, you know.

And I've, I've met, met a, I got to the top of this kind of big hill, and there's a chap at the top, and he stopped, and he's looking back in the other direction, and I'm just about to run past him, and he said, "God, this, look at the view.

What an amazing view." And I stopped, looked back, and there's this just view across, um, Dorset of Portland in the background and, you know, it was just this amazing moment of like, I get to do this.
