All these people that basically don't do it

... somebody else, and we didn't, we hadn't seen the show yet And we're like, "Ah, I guess so.

Just, yeah, right.

One of the things that makes that really hard is that there are a lot of them in this movie, right? Who are you interested in following? Hobo Guy, Brother, Pre-Grey's Anatomy, Isaiah Washington, Halle Berry, Don Cheadle.

Who are you interested in tracking? Because they introduce us to so many of them.

Maybe you're just interested in What's his name from The Wire, who's sitting in the back of the C-SPAN truck? There are a lot of well-positioned Black character actors in this movie, and Maybe as a result of the sheer volume of them, none of them get any significant individual treatment.

Yeah, so the whole thing with, you know, I remember my homeboy's brother by the name of Isaiah Washington, who used to be on Grey's Anatomy.

And he was leaning right wing during the first Trump administration because he wanted to get brothers out of prison during the first step down.

And then he kind of, it's like, this is a scam.

It can be very efficient and... propulsive at times in just like he he knows how to just make like quick impacts as a filmmaker this is an example of his style just basically like coming across as hackery and is just like so by the numbers and stale that I think he struggles to get any real tension out of this story and any real intrigue in the case.

And really like the only tiny bit of drama this movie gets is when you, you know, see the scenes of the, the man who is on the death penalty played by Isaiah Washington and, Like, that's the only moment where it's like, oh, okay, it feels like there's stakes here.

But otherwise, it feels like this movie that is tonally all over the place.

It feels like he kind of just sort of rushed through this production and is also very desperately trying to, as an old movie star, be like, I still got it.

Right, exactly.

Wow.

But I also think the Isaiah Washington stuff in the movie I think is genuinely good.

The stuff with him and his family in prison I think is very affecting.

So it stars Julianna Margulies as Maureen Epps, Gabriel Byrne as Captain Sean Murphy, Ron Eldred as Greg Dodge, Desmond Harrington as Jack Ferriman, Isaiah Washington as Philip Greer, Remember how he got in trouble for saying the F slur.

Oh, he did.

Yeah.

I think this is the best part of the entire movie.

Oh, yeah.

Where Isaiah Washington's character is walking around and everything kind of turns from dead to alive, I guess.

Yeah.

I haven't seen big trouble.

Um, And then some other notable actors in this film were Albert Brooks, Catherine Teener, Isaiah Washington, Steve Zahn, Luis Guzman in one of his earlier roles, Viola Davis, Michael Keaton in a hilarious cameo, and Sam Jackson in a fantastic cameo.

And Albert Brooks was really funny in this, too.

Brooks is really funny.

I think Catherine Keener is brilliant in this.

Isaiah Washington plays against type, but he's real fun doing that whole monologue about the dog getting a bone or whatever.

Oh my gosh.

It's a massive role, and the fact that Aaliyah played this role in her second movie, it speaks to her command, to how seriously she commanded to be taken, unafraid.

One time she supposedly shut down another actor, people speculate it was Isaiah Washington, I don't know, that's the lore, for homophobic comments.

She's new to the industry, but baby girl is a standard-bearer, even off-camera.

Aaliyah at this point has taken a few years away from music to focus on acting, and the shift has worked.
