Mike SchaeferHOST
15:48
Uh, 5%.
Mike SchaeferHOST
15:50
5% goes to, as I put in my, uh, my notes here, uh, Makai Nelson and Isaiah Mozee.
Connor HapperHOST
15:58
[laughs]
Mike SchaeferHOST
15:59
Apparently can't spell Nelson.
Mike SchaeferHOST
16:00
Uh, 5% goes to the running backs there.
Mike SchaeferHOST
16:03
They didn't have a great day, but I thought it was the best game we've seen from Isaiah Mozee.
Mike SchaeferHOST
16:07
And for as limited as Makai Nelson was, it was pretty critical he had that quick 19-yard touchdown run.
Mike SchaeferHOST
16:13
You don't, you remove all doubt, you score right there.
Dana HolgorsenSOUNDBITE_SPEAKER
40:47
You know, Quinn got targeted a couple of times.
Dana HolgorsenSOUNDBITE_SPEAKER
40:49
Isaiah got targeted a couple times.
Dana HolgorsenSOUNDBITE_SPEAKER
40:52
Ran the ball, you know? Um, and so that's just gotta naturally happen until something schematically says that you can't do that.
Chris SchmidtHOST
41:02
It's Dana Holgorsen.

24 MINS LATER

Michael BruntzGUEST
64:37
And, and, but Nebraska's gotta find something, a, a little bit more consistency with the, the traditional running game.
Michael BruntzGUEST
64:44
You know, Anthony Colandrea's gonna be able to get some yards, I think.
Michael BruntzGUEST
64:48
But you have to get Jamal Rule, Mikah Nelson, Isaiah Mozee, whomever, going in this game.
Michael BruntzGUEST
64:54
You gotta find something to not be one-dimensional.
Adam CarrikerHOST
2:28
Makai Nelson, great explosive runner, a little bit on the light side, and sometimes that catches up to him.
Adam CarrikerHOST
2:33
Isaiah Mozee is a good running back.
Adam CarrikerHOST
2:37
If you want my opinion, okay, and if you're listening to the show you probably do, he's one year away from being really good.
Adam CarrikerHOST
2:44
He needs another year of running back development.
Ravi LullaHOST
8:04
Like, if, g- knock on wood, I'm knocking on all the wood we have here.
Ravi LullaHOST
8:09
Like, if Makai Nelson, and Isaiah Mozee, and, and, a- a- and Vince Genitone, like, if all of those other guys get hurt, then it's like, okay, Jamal, we can put Jamal out there.
Ravi LullaHOST
8:20
But this is, I, I think it's a situation where it's like, hey, like, break glass in case of emergency.
Ravi LullaHOST
8:24
That's how I view doubtful.
Austin JacobsenHOST
10:41
So I don't, I don't wanna, like, hyperventilate over all of this sort of stuff, like becoming on an injury report and people freaking out about all that stuff, but I think the bigger question to me is, is if this was the Indiana week, how much more important is it that those guys, if they're on the injury report and what their expected role would be comparative to what we are actually going to see on this Saturday, because it is Maryland.
Austin JacobsenHOST
11:03
And I think that a big part of this is exactly what we've talked about with a lot of the guys so far this week, is Maryland is still talented.
Austin JacobsenHOST
11:09
They're not going to completely roll over, we don't think, but there is a version of this game where Nebraska does need to put them away early, so that way you don't have them using their talent in suspicious ways, and you don't feel like, "Hey, why does Maryland still, like, just traipsing around this game for?" And I think that that is a, a, a big thing for Nebraska, just in those first 15 minutes of the game, right? And a lot of these guys, especially Makai Nelson, if he's not 100% ready to go, if Isaiah Mozee's able to just, you know, get that head start moving for Nebraska at the running back spot, fantastic, but personally I would, I would feel more confident if it was Makai Nelson, because that's who we've seen so far through the first four games.
Ravi LullaHOST
11:45
Yeah, 100%, and I'm, I'm probably the state's leading Isaiah Mozee fan, so, like, even as in that role, um, yeah, I, I would feel more comfortable if you had both of them.
Ravi LullaHOST
39:00
I'm knocking on all the wood we have here.
Ravi LullaHOST
39:02
Like, if Makai Nelson and Isaiah Mozee and... and Vince Genitone like if all of those other guys get hurt then it's like okay Jamal we can put Jamal out there but this is I think it's a situation where it's like hey like break glass in case of emergency that's how I view doubtful like not medically prohibited from playing but certainly not 100% and should not play unless something crazy happens that so that's I didn't like that at all.
Ravi LullaHOST
39:32
That's how I take
Austin JacobsenHOST
39:32
it.
Terrell FarleyHOST
3:07
Well, this is where it's helpful to [laughs] have a committee ready, uh, because there, there will be injuries throughout the season, and, and it's kind of next man up here.
Terrell FarleyHOST
3:15
And, and it just looks like it'll be a bigger role for Isaiah Mozee this weekend one way or the other.
Terrell FarleyHOST
3:21
Now, certainly possible, you know, again, you go through these labels.
Terrell FarleyHOST
3:23
Questionable still means it, it's possible that you play.
Terrell FarleyHOST
3:55
So I mean, he's, he's [laughs] right up there, uh, with it, and when he's got it, they've been pretty big.
Terrell FarleyHOST
3:59
So it, it, it, it's definitely something to monitor if he does play how many snaps he, that he'll get.
Terrell FarleyHOST
4:05
But I would expect to see a heavy dose of Isaiah Mozee.
Terrell FarleyHOST
4:09
And, and again, he's looked solid and, and certainly has flashed, uh, throughout his he, his, his years here at Nebraska, his first two years here.
Adam CarrikerHOST
2:59
So I think that's kinda what he's talking about, but he's also talking about wanna run the ball.
Adam CarrikerHOST
3:02
So if Jamal Rule's doubtful for this game, Isaiah Mozee, he actually graded out the best of all the running backs against Michigan State.
Adam CarrikerHOST
3:09
Uh, Mekhi Nelson, he's got that extra burst, runs with violence.
Adam CarrikerHOST
3:11
If I'm being honest with you, with Jamal, even when he's back, whenever he does play, his ceiling, there is no ceiling.
Brian ChristophersonHOST
5:23
But you're right.
Brian ChristophersonHOST
5:24
Like, you gotta be smart, and this is a game where, uh, you wanna see Makai and Isaiah Mozee in particular, uh, you know, show their stuff.
Brian ChristophersonHOST
5:32
Obviously, Makai's, um, you know, a guy who I thought played pretty well on Saturday against Michigan State.
Brian ChristophersonHOST
5:39
I really liked, even though it was sort of tough sledding at times, that they had that drive to finish it off, where they ran it on nine of the 12 plays for the touchdown that made it 31-13, and I thought Nelson was pretty good there.
Adam CarrikerHOST
0:45
Makai Nelson, 70.4, played 23 snaps, the most of any running backs.
Adam CarrikerHOST
0:50
Isaiah Mozee, 69.3, played 19 snaps.
Adam CarrikerHOST
0:53
Jamal Rule felt a little bit tight, okay, in the second half, so he didn't get any carries second half.
Adam CarrikerHOST
0:58
That's all right.
Adam CarrikerHOST
0:59
Isaiah Mozee got a little bit more time on the field, scored his first touchdown, averaged almost 70 yards per carry.
Adam CarrikerHOST
1:04
Jamal Rule, though, 13 snaps, highest grade, 74 over- aw, actually, the, that was the highest grade of any freshman running back in the country.
Adam CarrikerHOST
1:13
Quentin Ives, all right, uh, let's see, 10 snaps, 63.5.
Jay MooreGUEST
66:07
You just like to see them have a little more production in these first three games against, let's be honest, I mean, they're gonna play better offensive lines as years goes on, and you gotta develop those, that confidence and those, those good habits of pre-snap reads and just knowing where your one-on-one match-ups are gonna be.
Elijah HerbelHOST
66:22
Jay, your pick for best in game pre-game was Isaiah Mozee.
Elijah HerbelHOST
66:26
He had higher production this week than he did in game one.
Elijah HerbelHOST
66:28
What'd you like out of him, and then what are you looking forward to seeing in the future?
