Isaiah 25

The prophesied feast of the kingdom begins.

On this mountain, the Lord of hosts will make for all peoples a feast of rich food, a feast of well-aged wine, Isaiah 25:6.

In the Old Testament, wine was a symbol of joy and blessing.

At the Last Supper, Jesus spoke of the wine as a symbol of his life-giving blood.

So you could you go on and on and on all the way through the scriptures.

Almost Isaiah 25 connects with Revelations 21.

Death is swallowed up in victory.

He's going to wipe away every Isaiah says he'll wipe away every tear from your eyes.

First reading this morning is Isaiah 25, verse 6 to 9, which you can find on page 586 of the Church Bibles.

On this mountain, the Lord of hosts will make for all peoples a feast of rich food, a feast of well-aged wine, of rich food full of marrow, of aged wine well-refined.

And he will swallow up on this mountain the covering that is cast over all peoples, the veil that is spread over all nations.

He said to his friend Nathanael, we found him of whom Moses in the law and also the prophets wrote, Jesus of Nazareth, son of Joseph.

We found the guy to whom the whole Bible was building up to.

And the particular Bible background is what we read in our first reading from Isaiah, Isaiah 25.

That's not the only place in the Old Testament where God uses the picture of wine, plentiful, aged, amazing wine, to say what will happen when he steps in to save people.

It's often a picture of celebration.

So focus your mind on Jesus.

Isaiah 25, verse 42.

Look unto Jesus, or ye enter the earth and be saved.

And then looking at Hebrews 12, verse 1 and 2, looking unto Jesus, the author and finisher of our faith.

You can say you've seen it.

Then fourth, he poetically describes preparations for the millennial day by quoting Isaiah.

He says, "...they are here in this land, so that a feast of fat things might be prepared for the poor, yea, a feast of fat things, of wine on the lees well refined." That's almost a verbatim quote of Isaiah 25, 6, which describes like this final feast of nations at the end of times on the mountain of the Lord, the hill of Zion.

And this language of like the feast of fat things is just referring to like rich and delicious foods.

And then wine on the leaves, well-refined, just refers to wine that has been allowed to age undisturbed.

What should the teacher know for this lesson? Isaiah 24 contains prophecies of destruction, judgment, and loss.

But Isaiah 25 turns the reader's attention toward what God will ultimately do for his people.

The sorrow of chapter 24 isn't the end of the story.

So Isaiah 25, six through nine moves through a series of images.

The Lord prepares a feast.

He removes a covering that spread over all people.

Isaiah also called Jesus Christ wonderful in Isaiah 9, 6.

Why is he worthy of that title though? for the very same reason, because of the wonderful things he does.

Whoever abides in me and I in him, he it is that bears much fruit, for apart from me you can do nothing.

Isaiah 25:8: He will swallow up death for all time, and the Lord God will wipe tears from every face, and he will remove the disgrace of his people from all the earth, for the Lord has spoken.

2 Peter 3:18: But grow in the grace and knowledge of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ.

To him be the glory both now and to the day of eternity.

Whoever abides in me and I in him, he it is that bears much fruit.

For apart from me, you can do nothing.

Isaiah 25:8.

He will swallow up death for all time, and the Lord God will wipe tears from every face, and He will remove the disgrace of His people from all the earth, for the Lord has spoken.

God in the flesh, the husband of his people is standing in front of you.

And he reminds them like this should be a celebratory feast because in Isaiah, right? Isaiah, when he talks about this, Isaiah 25, starting in verse six, he's like, man, on this mountain.

The Lord of hosts will make for all people a feast of rich food and a feast of well-aged wine and rich food of marrow and aged wine well refined.

And he describes like when the bridegroom comes, oh, there's going to be such a feast, the best food, the best wine.
