Episode 148: Rethinking the Off-Season, Racing with Joy, and Context vs. Excuses
J
24:50JimHOST
The second thing that I'm thinking about this year is I really, really, really, we've talked about, you know, Ironman Lake Placid a lot.
J
24:55JimHOST
We talked a little bit about Ironman Canada we've talked about Ironman Canada versus Lake Placid and which one should you do but a big thing I want to start signaling out to our communities that the last couple years I've built this sort of this cohort this community around our Lake Placid athletes and I'm going to continue to do that this year but I also want to build up one around Ironman Canada because I think Canada is actually a really good choice for a lot of athletes who maybe traditionally would have thought about oh I can only do Lake Placid because it's the only Ironman I can really drive to in the summertime, so just sort of signaling out there, like, Army Canada is a really good option for folks.
J
25:26JimHOST
I'd love to build up a big cohort around that, and that's, you know, things like weekly or every couple weeks, Zoom meetings with athletes and everybody getting together, and what I find really interesting about that is that, you know, part of it in these Zoom calls that I'm trying to communicate information to everybody all at once.
J
25:41JimHOST
So not to keep repeating it over and over again.
J
26:09JimHOST
And then when you get to the race, you're like, I know you, we've been on zoom for many, many times.
J
26:13JimHOST
And it also made me possibly roll this into some, maybe some big training days in the Anyway, just as a way, like that's going to be a big focus of mine.
J

I kicked off the last block of travel with Ironman Canada in Ottawa, my first time in the city and despite torrential rain on race day, cue panic buying wellies the night before, the finish line was rocking right through to the very last athlete across the finish line.
J

Ottawa is a fabulous and hugely historic city.
J

It's well worth the visit, so maybe pop it on your Ironman destination list.
