To what extent is this legal instrument useful for sustaining the cooperation with the European Union? Is Georgia, in other words, moving towards a model of EU integration without membership?

Irakli SamkharadzeGUEST
Again, you're posing a very interesting question here and this is probably where I would put on my EU law hat most explicitly, if you allow me.

Irakli SamkharadzeGUEST
First, the association agreement has to be separated legally from the accession process.

Irakli SamkharadzeGUEST
The agreement, you're absolutely correct, the agreement was signed in June 2014 entering fully in force on 1st of July 2016.

Irakli SamkharadzeGUEST
It is an international agreement concluded under Article 217 TFEU involving obviously the EU, its member states and Georgia.

Irakli SamkharadzeGUEST
And legally, as we usually say in EU law classes, we even call this as a mixed agreement, according to the EU law, not classic bilateral, but driven through the bilateral ethos.

Sara PoliHOST
Now, coming to my final question, what political and legal conditions would need to be met for Georgia's EU accession process to regain momentum? Could you give us some concluding thoughts on this issue? Thank you.
