Ipanema

So like samba...

Like, before I got to Brazil, I knew of bossa nova, like Tom Jobim, the girl from Ipanema, you know, like the classics, which are beautiful.

But, like, the Brazilian music goes way, way deeper than just that.

But bossa nova is like a branch of samba, which is like the rhythm itself, you know? Da-da-da-da-da-da-da.

But it's great.

Passionate people there.

But I did get to walk up and down Copacabana Beach and – Ipanema beach there.

I was out there a few days.

You know, we stayed in two different beaches.

Ipanema, the famous, you know, girl from Ipanema.

Of course, I was just about to

say right to what you were saying.

Trust me.

But the two beaches are very different.

Ipanema is like, you know, more of a party fun vibe.

There's a gay beach there.

Somebody safe.

And we went on the beach there, Copacabana and Ipanema.

That's where I'm going to be.

And it's beautiful.

Yeah.

Sugarloaf, which is the big rock out in the thing.

Ipanema, the girlfriend Ipanema.

I would highly recommend that you take Kath up to a rooftop pool bar in Ipanema and get some drinks and watch the sunset.

I was on the beach in Ipanema, and there's a guy who comes out every evening as the sun goes down.

And he plays, and I'm out in the water listening to this guy playing on the promenade.

Admittedly, I've had a caipirinha.

No, please do.

Three years back, I spent two weeks in Brazil and Argentina.

And I was on the beach in Ipanema.

And there's a guy who comes out every evening as the sun goes down.

And he plays.

Then I started to learn about just, I guess you could say, the natural wonders of the country from the Amazon all the way to the extreme south.

And when you put into the mix all of the nature and the history and the culture that is in Brazil, I met my wife in Ipanema.

And so I sometimes joke, I call her the, uh, the girl from Ipanema.

And so we've, we've been together for over 20 years and have a, have a lovely son who's 13 years old.

And, and so we lived several years in, in Brazil and I speak Portuguese.

All right, so our next journey is going to take us really to one place, but from another.

We are going to get our B-52s in here for 1986 with Girl from Ipanema Goes to Greenland, one of the best titles I can think of from 1986.

And we're going to start getting a little bit weirder.

A little bit weirder?

So the idea of this track is as far as I can tell is that the girl from Ipanema, uh, from the song, uh, she, uh, this is sort of what happens afterwards is that like, you know, there's this girl from Ipanema and she like loses someone.

She loses a lover perhaps.

And she is like wandering around trying to find the person.
