As you are traveling from San Diego to Phoenix.

Down Interstate 8.

Beautiful drive across the desert.

About halfway is Yuma.

The Danielle Van Dam Memorial Overpass on Interstate 8 at 2nd Street in El Cajon.

I think of Danielle Van Dam and people see the sign and know the location where her body was found.

A memorial over Pass and Danielle's name was constructed on Interstate 8, near where her body was discovered.

The tragedy led to increased crime awareness in San Diego and the creation of the Danielle Legacy Foundation, which focuses on promoting volunteerism and

children's safety.

And an acceptance of where you are relative to everything is really beneficial.

If you can just accept it rather than judge it, rather than be mad at yourself about it, rather than question it or rather than resent it, if you can just accept that you are where you are, now what? Now what? Sort of like, we used to tell a story, it's a really good one, of Jerry and Esther traveling from Phoenix on their way to San Diego and getting about halfway on Interstate 8, and there they are in Yuma, and they really didn't want to be in Yuma.

And we said they never were so discouraged about being in Yuma instead of San Diego that they got disoriented and went back to Phoenix.

Phoenix, Yuma, Phoenix, Yuma.

For those not familiar with this area, on one side of San Diego is the ocean, below it is the Mexico border, and then right behind it to the east is wilderness, complete wilderness that stretches all the way to the end of the state and eventually becomes the desert.

This area where David's house was built, the old hunting cabin, was along a prominent trade route that spanned from the eastern mountains of San Diego to the coastline and would eventually become Interstate eight.

The house was built with two granite stones holding it up and a river running beneath it, which they believe made it a perfect energetic hotspot for activity.

In this episode, you will also hear from David's sister, Corinne, and his mother, Angie, who all experienced things in this house as well.

Based on the insect clues and the similarities between the Swick murder and the other cases, Ronald Porter was charged in the murder of Sandra Swick.

Prosecutors believe Ronald Porter picked up Swick as she hitchhiked somewhere near an entrance ramp to Interstate 8.

going to Florida.

It was called the Arroyo Seco Parkway, and then later the Pasadena Freeway.

And here in San Diego, just south of Temecula, uh, going west to east from the coast, you first had the Ocean Beach Freeway, and then east of that-

... you had the Mission Valley Freeway.

And then in 1964, like elsewhere around the country, California started using numbers instead of words.

So the Ocean Beach Freeway and the Mission Valley Freeway became part of Interstate 8, which stretches on into Arizona.

And here, old habits died hard, and people held onto the the.

Um, and in the same way, the Montgomery Freeway coming up from the border with Mexico goes through San Diego and turned into the San Diego Freeway and continues north.

I'm up in the Phoenix area, Tempe.

But west of Tucson, there's this huge line of locomotives just parked on this really interesting rail siding right near the Interstate 8. there and or 10.

It's one of those two.

And and and that's I was just parked waiting for a time when you you need that capacity.
