Interstate 72

You know, we were talking about this October second, third, all the way to the, you know, the, the twelfth, thirteenth of, of open.

And, uh, I was out driving around on, uh, let's see, Wednesday, and, uh, driving on I-72 th- through Central Illinois, and the lights were everywhere.

Everyone was out harvesting.

There was just low level of dust hanging in the sky from people getting stuff done.

Okay.

Then Penny's captor brought her to an Interstate 72 gas station on the edge of town, and while inside, Penny managed to... used the restroom and the man, he kind of like waited outside the door for her.

And while she was in the bathroom, she left a note that read, quote, he has a gun in his pants.

Help.

And then at that point, it reaches the Eastern Great Lakes and starts to allow us to then develop a rather gusty southwesterly flow at the surface with temperatures then heading back above normal by tomorrow afternoon with counties located to the south of I-74 even reaching back into above normal territory as we get into Wednesday.

Therefore sending afternoon temperatures about 10 degrees above normal for locations along and south of I-72 just before then we level out around seven degrees above normal as a weak front does influence the northern half of the state late on Wednesday into Thursday.

Below normal rainfall is expected as we are going to be dry through this week and into the weekend.

The mid-range forecast period for the 10th of October through the 14th above normal air will continue in the Midwest leading up to the middle of this month and the humidity will then begin to creep back as well with rain entering the picture over the entire southern half of the state this coming Sunday all due to the remnants of a tropical system traveling north from the Gulf of Mexico and then again from an entirely separate system that will arrive about two days later from the northwest and behind this wide band of moderate rain temperatures will cool to around five degrees below normal as this air will be sourced from the northern Rockies and not from central Canada.

Seasonably warm conditions and mostly cloudy skies are expected throughout most of today.

We'll have a high of 85 degrees this afternoon, but we can't rule out that stray shower chance, especially north of I-72, but overall conditions today look fairly dry.

Overnight tonight, temperatures are going to stay very warm.

We'll have a low of only 71 degrees.

Six people were treated for injuries after two semi-tractor trailers and two passenger vehicles crashed on Interstate 72 in eastern Sagamon County Wednesday afternoon.

The Illinois State Police said the crash occurred after 4 p.m. at about mile post 111, that's west of the Buffalo-Mechanicsburg exit.

Westbound lanes of I-72 were briefly closed.

All lanes in both directions reopened at about 7 p.m. Springfield Police added 12 officers to the force yesterday with a swearing-in ceremony.

Eleven of the officers, new graduates of the Macon County Law Enforcement Training Center, another a lateral hire.
