The Summit has been sold, AL.com's William Thornton reports, that the big shopping center at Interstate 459 and Highway 280 in southern Birmingham was acquired by Federal Realty Investment Trust for $508 million.

The summit's fame spreads far beyond Birmingham and its southern suburbs.

It sits on 100 acres overlooking the Cahaba River Valley.

So it'll take care of all that Bradford to Palmerdale traffic.

Now, If it's finished according to plan, it'll end up being 52 miles of interstate connecting I-459 in Bessemer to I-59 in Northeast Jefferson County.

The latest estimated budget for the project comes in at $6.19 billion.

It may or may not be finished in our lifetimes, depending on how seasoned we are.
