Interstate 270

That's typical through there.

Heads up in Frederick, we're getting a report of a wreck eastbound on I-70 near the ramp at I-270.

The initial report says several lanes are blocked on the eastbound side.

All of that stuff we had early this morning on 795 apparently still there, and it's still backed up, and it's still slow after Owings Mills Boulevard for the traffic going south to an accident scene that was there an hour ago before the bridge at McDonald Road.

You're gonna be slow from there.

You pass that bridge at McDonald Road, and then you're on the way to the Beltway, which is now backed up to 795, and from there down to Frederick Road.

Filling in quickly on the Parkville side at Hartford Road, big wreck in Frederick County, eastbound I-70 right before the bridge at I-270.

Looked at some of the speeds there.

Now here's something worth knowing, Claire.

Right there in Rockville, a stone's throw from the hum of Route 270, sits a place called Holmescroft.

Once it was a log cabin for the man who ran the Wooten family's gristmill on a modest stream called Watts Branch, built in the early 1800s.

Later, the family of William Henry Holmes bought it and gave it that name.

At that point, City Fire said that vehicle was on its side when they got there.

And we've had a wreck on the Capitol Beltway with delays already on the outer loop heading around towards the spur at I-270 in Montgomery County.

Southbound I-270 is closed possibly.

Now we're getting a report that all the lanes are blocked.

Southbound 270 after I-70 and then moving south towards Route 85.

So that's good news.

It was blocked there for about 20 minutes.

After I-70, there's still a delay at the scene, but at least we're on the move once again.

It's brilliant.

But what about the interstates that have three digits, like I-495 or I-270?

Those are auxiliary routes, and they have their own elegant code based on their first digit.
