Internet exchange point

Anyway, the Canadian government decided, in their wisdom, to build nodes here so that internet traffic could go from Vancouver to Toronto to Ottawa instead of from Vancouver to San Diego to Ottawa.

So they built these things called IXPs, which are these nodes, right? Which in Canada work to keep our internet sovereign, to keep our internet within the borders of our country.

But there's an issue that our Internet service providers, the Bells and the Rogers and those people, aren't using these.

They're deferring to the American IXPs.

So while they have the ability to shift to Canadian sovereign... nodes they're not because they it's just too much work for them or something i don't know but they exist in canada where we could keep more of our internet traffic here within our borders instead of routing it through the united states now It's a similar thing to the oil pipelines where we have oil, we have petroleum products coming from Alberta to the Ontario border going east, but then they dip into the United States and then they come back into Canada.

So all the petroleum has to first pass through the United States, which is the stupidest thing ever.

We have to think about digital sovereignty.

We have to think about using the stuff.

it just speaks to how we, we may need to just be looking a little bit more deeply, I think, at many of these issues.

Um, and, and, and, and, and even, um, Jason, you had mentioned about the caching and, uh, you know, it reminds me of course of IXPs and some of the things that IXPs are supposed to do.

And we have also heard maybe calls, you know, not, not, not very sh- not very, um, strong or vocal in terms of having a regional IXP whereby w- y- a lot of the, you know, the, the interaction, communication resources that could stay within the region and not necessarily need to go to Florida, et cetera, to come back to the region.

Uh, so, so there are things like that I think we need to be thinking a little bit more holistically about, um, the infrastructure that we require, digital infrastructure that we require, especially as it relates to fiber, um, and how w- does how our systems, processes, procedures need to change to facilitate the, the, the, the connectivity of the future that we want.
