International Plowing Match

This is a shirt to support our family moisture farmers.

It is, of course, the week of the international plowing match when agricultural matters are top of mind for all provincial leaders.

I knew, you know, it's something that comes every year.

And I had this shirt just waiting for this week to come out because it's the closest thing I can find to the intersection of a very nerdy Star Wars or Star Trek reference, as we like to make on this podcast, or at least as I like to, and agricultural matters.

Yeah.

Do you know the international plowing match is always one of the funniest events of the year because, of course, you've got a bunch of city slickers who are the leaders of the major parties at Queen's Park who all get up on a tractor and try to plow a straight furrow.

And hilarity ensues, I think, is the best way to put it.

Yes, a bit incongruous.

The self-guided rural exploration features 10 unique destinations scattered throughout the municipality, each marked by a custom selfie frame designed to highlight the area's scenery and story.

A special bonus frame has also been placed at the International Plowing Match, available until Saturday.

Prime Minister Mark Carney will be wrapping up his time at the United Nations General Assembly with an event co-hosted with the European Commission president.

The premier was among the politicians on hand today for the International Plowing Match, an annual celebration of agriculture in Ontario.

But this year, farmers have plenty of concerns, from the price of fuel to the challenges facing food exports south of the border.

CTV's Queen's Park bureau chief Siobhan Morris traveled to Walkerton today and has this report.

The International Plowing Match is a tradition that draws visitors from all over Ontario.

The Wingham Terry Fox Run is this Sunday with registration starting at 10 a.m.

Anticipation is building in Walkerton as the final preparations wrap up for the 2026 Bruce County International Plowing Match and Rural Expo.

Over 100 tractor competitors and more than 15 horse competitors are set to hit the fields at Bruce Road 3 and Durham Road.

One of the first chairs of the IPM committee, Bill Walker, says it's a premier showcase of the area's agricultural industry.
