Hello, everybody.
Jamie MarzilliHOST
0:50
Welcome to the Raw Materials Podcast, live from IMTS.
Jamie MarzilliHOST
0:54
I'm here with my co-host, Leigh Marzilli.
Jamie MarzilliHOST
0:56
Hey, Leigh, say hi to everybody.

7 MINS LATER

Jamie MarzilliHOST
7:41
All right, so I guess we should talk about AI, right? I mean, it's the elephant in the room.
Jamie MarzilliHOST
7:45
It is the...
Jamie MarzilliHOST
7:47
I caused a lot of trouble yesterday with my opinions on AI and manufacturing here at IMTS.
Jamie MarzilliHOST
7:52
I still stand by how I believe about this, but there are some places where I believe that...
John GrimsmoHOST
9:26
Okay.
John GrimsmoHOST
9:27
And then I just yesterday, I rewatched a lot of the footage that I took at IMTS of all the interferometers there.
John GrimsmoHOST
9:32
And I like watched it again with, with fresh eyes.
John GrimsmoHOST
9:35
Yeah.

7 MINS LATER

John SaundersHOST
16:44
And it's like, dude, no, let it.
John SaundersHOST
16:46
create his own reviewer.
John GrimsmoHOST
16:47
Yeah, Phil Butterworth was telling me explaining this to me at IMTS, because I asked him, and I was like, what does it mean to have like separate agents running and reviewing the code and stuff? And he was saying, you give each reviewer its own set of instructions and prompts, you know, nothing else other than you know, how to read code or other than how to research on the internet or other than what looks good for this, whatever.
John GrimsmoHOST
17:15
And I still haven't really played with that to kind of separate the roles and responsibilities.
Michelle BangertHOST
0:05
Greetings from IMTS.
Michelle BangertHOST
0:06
I'm Michelle Bangert, Managing Editor of Quality, and I'm here today with Mehul Shah.
Michelle BangertHOST
0:10
He's the CEO of a company called Ground Control.
Michelle BangertHOST
1:08
That sounds very important.
Michelle BangertHOST
1:09
That's great.
Michelle BangertHOST
1:11
And so I know at IMTS this year, you're speaking about an AI case study.
Michelle BangertHOST
1:14
Could you walk us through the story?
Mehul ShahGUEST
1:16
Yeah, absolutely.
Chris McNamaraHOST
2:10
You might hear a little bit of background noise.
Chris McNamaraHOST
2:11
We're here live at IMTS in Chicago.
Chris McNamaraHOST
2:13
And so if that picked up, that's because we're out in the field.
Chris McNamaraHOST
2:19
You said you help companies work online.

7 MINS LATER

Jay StaceyGUEST
9:34
OK,
Chris McNamaraHOST
9:35
excellent.
Chris McNamaraHOST
9:36
Again, we're here live at IMTS in Chicago.
Chris McNamaraHOST
9:40
Big picture question for you.
Steve PlumbHOST
14:50
Yeah.
Steve PlumbHOST
14:51
So another big event that just happened was IMTS.
Steve PlumbHOST
14:55
I know you guys had a big presence there.
Steve PlumbHOST
14:58
What was your take on the attitude, the feeling for the industry and the outlook for 2027? Things
Bob HellingerGUEST
16:16
We just took delivery of three new pieces of equipment, and the next round of equipment sits at least six months away before we can even take delivery of another machine.
Bob HellingerGUEST
16:27
Every machine means more employees, and it's going to be tough, yeah.
Steve PlumbHOST
16:32
So at IMTS, you also had partnered with Mastercam and somebody else on the Freedom Tower that you built there.
Steve PlumbHOST
16:43
That's right.
Jim BelosicHOST
12:05
Oh, interesting.
Jim BelosicHOST
12:05
Like going to IMTS versus Fabtech.
Tim PaulGUEST
12:08
Yeah.
Jim BelosicHOST
12:09
Completely different.
Jim BelosicHOST
12:53
Devin has like a 12-inch beard.
Jim BelosicHOST
12:55
We're going to count how many 12-inch beards or longer are there.
Jim BelosicHOST
12:59
Because in IMTS, I think we saw one.
Jim BelosicHOST
13:02
At Fabtech, there will be thousands.
Michelle BangertHOST
0:06
IMTS.
Michelle BangertHOST
0:06
I'm Michelle Bangert, Managing Editor of Quality.
Michelle BangertHOST
0:09
And I'm here today with Timothy Steward.
Paul Van MetreHOST
3:20
I was at a little conference thing down in Santa Monica and I left and I was in the hallway and we were talking and you were asking some questions about, you know, a shop and buying one and, and, uh, And then now here we are.
Paul Van MetreHOST
3:33
So I saw you at IMTS recently and you brought a bunch of your team and it was really good to see you.
Paul Van MetreHOST
3:39
And now we're here recording Manufacturing Transformed.
Paul Van MetreHOST
3:42
So it feels like a full circle moment.

53 MINS LATER

David GalikGUEST
56:47
Oh, yeah.
David GalikGUEST
56:50
I think what, oh, man, I mean, just a recent highlight.
David GalikGUEST
56:54
This is, you know, I saw you at IMTS.
David GalikGUEST
56:58
This is going to be a lifelong memory.
Chris McNamaraHOST
2:01
Tell us a little bit about what you do.
Chris McNamaraHOST
2:03
We are here at IMTS in Chicago.
Chris McNamaraHOST
2:05
And tell us about what you do at Infor.
Chris McNamaraHOST
2:07
So my job is
Jim MayerHOST
13:11
I mean, Fulcrum is really in the thick of digital transformation technology.
Jim MayerHOST
13:19
And one of the things that was really apparent to me at this last IMTS in 2024 was... was the amount of software in this space.
Jim MayerHOST
13:32
It seems to have just exploded from the previous one where it seems like a lot more companies are focusing on the manufacturing industry when it comes to software and digital transformation, etc.
Jim MayerHOST
13:46
What do you think is something or a couple of things or what people get wrong about building a software for this industry?
Alex TroeschGUEST
13:55
Yeah, that's a really interesting question.
Alex TroeschGUEST
13:57
Also, before I dovetail into that, I was also at that IMTS, and it was a really interesting IMTS, so I'm excited for the upcoming one, because I've been to previous, and there was so much discussion of software and tech, which in previous, and you've likely been to even more than I have, that was not the case.
Alex TroeschGUEST
14:18
The keynote speakers, it was all very machine-oriented, and so yeah i felt like we started to see this shift like around that we saw it started to see it happen around that time frame where people started to say okay wow the machines have advanced so far that they're essentially ahead of what our tech can do in the rest of our business we can't even keep up with you know the the the we can't even keep the machine busy enough because not because we don't have the work because it's the decision making sort of becoming the bottleneck which was a premise we had had sort of for a while but was so wild to start to see that proliferate.
Alex TroeschGUEST
14:58
And so, yeah, but I think, you know, to your question of why do I think people kind of get building for this industry and this space wrong a lot? And, you know, there has been obviously a history of a lot of a lot of companies who have built for this space in the past as well.
