International Avenue Business Revitalization Zone (BRZ)

I am Joan Sarrow with you.

For the next couple of hours on the show, this show is sponsored by International Avenue, 17th Avenue in the southeast of Calgary, Calgary's cultural capital.

And today is the National Day of Truth and Reconciliation.

And I want to honor that day.

It's home to a very diverse population.

Just to paint the scene for you, Pia, it's a lot of plazas, a lot of low-rise buildings, tons of small businesses, restaurants, mom-and-pop shops, culturally relevant clothing shops, And the main drag was actually renamed International Avenue because of that diversity.

And that's where I met Bronwyn Bragg.

She's an assistant professor of geography and environment at the University of Lethbridge.
