The GMC Canyon, well, it apparently has a crash test problem.

So the 2026 GMC Canyon received mixed results from the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety, IIHS, and it got a poor rating for its vehicle-to-vehicle front crash prevention system.

So the Canyon didn't fail the testing.

It earned good ratings in small overlap front and the updated side impact test, which are very hard tests to pass.

but the updated moderate overlap test was only marginal with rear passenger protection contributing to the result.

So it's a pretty ugly grade.

Part of it came from the automatic emergency braking system because in IIHS testing, the Canyon sometimes avoided the target altogether, but in other scenarios, it didn't reduce speed enough before the impact.

However, its pedestrian crash prevention system did do a lot better and that got an acceptable rating.

Yes, please.

Okay, we have some really, really, really good news, because the IIHS tested, I've been waiting for these testings to come out, the 2027 Kia Telluride earns a 2026 IIHS Top Safety Pick Plus rating.

Not the problem, but the good thing about the IIHS is every year they make those tests a little bit harder.

Yeah.

And as a palate cleanser to the [laughs] first two stories, it's all good news.

Uh, the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety, or IIHS, found that automatic emergency braking, AEB systems, recognize people in front of the car- ... cut pedestrian crashes by 27%.

Another IIHS study found that AEB reduced rear end crashes by 50% and injuries by 56%.

The Highway Loss Data Institute found cars with automated emergency braking showed a 13% drop in property damage claims.

Great job picking two CR recommended vehicles.

And on top of that, your NX Hybrid was also an IIHS Top Safety Pick+ awardee for that year.

Unfortunately, it's difficult to say whether or not you should always replace your vehicle for safety after X number of years.

The answer's quite a bit more nuanced than that.

Now, this may not seem like new news.

The refreshed Juniper 2026-2027 Model Y has received the IIHS, which is the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety's Top Safety Pick Plus again.

The Model Y has been earning Top Safety Pick Plus awards since 2021.

Isn't that great? That is pretty great.

But nice to see some more steps towards that.
