Insecure

Truxton, back to Tara.

My next character is Issa D., played by Issa Rae in Insecure.

And she's getting something that I would not mind getting myself.

It is the Kodak Smile Plus Wireless Digital Instant Print Camera for when she goes away on one of her doomed, terrible vacation weekends with her female friends where they all end up fighting all the time.

One of the things that I love, even if we're talking about something bad, which is obviously we're starting a drug epidemic.

But when we talk about shows like Insecure, when we talk about shows like Snowfall, I often feel like people don't watch because they kind of just chalk it up as, like, a drug story.

But there's a story about Los Angeles, specifically Black people in Los Angeles, in South Central and certain areas, that often doesn't get told, but there are stories about family, community, the neighborhoods, that I think are, are missed.

And when I hear people say, you know, overarching things about Los Angeles, there's so much of the Blackness that is missed.

Yes, for all of the ladies out there who are fans of Issa Rae and Insecure, there is some bad news for you, okay? Their 10-year anniversary tour with cast members has been canceled.

Issa Rae made an announcement saying schedules were making it difficult to coordinate and continue.

And they did it in a really cool Instagram video, too, where you see all the cast members explaining why it wasn't able to happen.

But this is an area that is like, the heart in part of the heart of south central now the crenshaw district is yeah the lowriders the cruising you know the scene in boys in the hood um it's the crenshaw district right uh it has been a place for black culture um black existence if you want to see the full expression from poverty to affluence it's the crenshaw district like that's Dom Kennedy, if you're familiar with him, Terrence Martin.

The coffee shop in Insecure is actually Haroon.

That takes place in a place called Leimert Park.

Now, Leimert Park, if you're new to the show, I've talked about this before.

No one messes with Leimert Park.

You talk to the elders, the elders meet on Monday, right? My homeboy Chase Infinite that runs the Haroon Coffee Shop.

That's the one that is modeled off down Insecure.

That's there.

It was, like, with notable people who were really working.

And then after that, [lips smack] which I shout out Issa Rae all the time, was Insecure.

Oh, yeah.

Mm.

Yeah, that was...

Shout out Insecure.

That was, that was a great show.

I don't know why they ain't, like, try to flip it.

A friend? Do we know the definition of the word? Everybody calm down.

But do we feel that, for example, I felt that way about Insecure.

I was like,

these, I was like, these people don't even like each other.

They allow them a kind of humanity.

They allow them expansiveness.

I find in all of these things that we're talking about, like, for example, Insecure or these Terry McMillan books.

Yeah, there's just like they don't allow each other to really grow.

You know, I'm going to the Inglewood one.

I was going back and forth, but then I was like, I love Insecure.

But I was going back and forth.

I was like, we're going to see how I feel when I get closer.

it was not bad it's okay i mean because it's a comedy anyway i feel bad for stink and then listen

i felt more when isa uh came clean to about cheating on lawrence than to that.

I gotta rewatch Insecure.

Also, she didn't even really do anything.
