And we had Inner City before... on our 1988 episode with Lisa Loud when we talked about Big Fun, and Lisa had some fairly amazing memories of taking her copy to the Hacienda and hammering on the door, making them play it.

So, reviewing this one, James says, by reviving Stephanie Mills' slinkily attractive oldie, but he and singer Paris Gray should get away with it as it's close to the soul-to-soul groove, the only way you can sell soul here these days, in this Morales and Knuckles remix, weavingly jogging through long, lush instrumental passages.

They really blew it, I thought, with the next release, the next single, That Man Is All Mine.

I thought that was quite an ugly record and it didn't do well for them.

That kind of led into a big... bit of a wilderness period then they did recover significantly in 1992 with two of my absolute favorite inner city tracks hallelujah and pennies from heaven and i'm always hearing pennies from heaven even today that's lasted really really well it's odd that um you know this is trucking along 105 and a half bpm and about five minutes in they had this kind of todd terry marshall jefferson ish housey synth hook i think that sounds a bit incongruous uh this particular bpm level i like it i don't like it as much as i thought i was going to because i loved it at the time and there's something just a bit sort of blaring about it that i think it suffers in comparison with the chimes actually i find the chimes heaven a much classier example of um this sort of thing
