understood correctly this was marketed as a big tentpole blockbuster action film this was not marketed as a satirical takedown of blockbuster action films so everybody went in expecting the next Terminator the next big army action vehicle they were not going in expecting a satirical takedown of movie tropes which this does so well the concept as i think we all definitely agree is fantastic and you don't see this concept kind of reappearing really until 15 to 20 years later i wouldn't say scream no no i'm gonna go more deeply into the idea of like free guy where it's a character who's in a video game who understands that he's in a video game that kind of idea because like you can talk about tropes but they are not in a movie do you know what I mean they don't exist in a movie that is a movie that's their real world

there's a film called Inkheart that does it with Brendan Fraser where if you read from a book characters come out of the book so you get all these that's really good because you have all these characters from different books appearing in the real world which is pretty cool but sorry

so it's For me the concept is so fucking good and I think it is done well but I think it was self-sabotaged by studio choices and what they tried to make it and what they tried to show it as and it probably left audiences confused.
