Indra Devi

Dr. Samuel Sandvich and Dr. Earl Gershman, they related their experiences with Bhagawan at a public meeting in San Diego.

So many people had gathered there to hear a lecture by Miss Indra Devi, one of those earliest devotees from the Western Hemisphere to come to Bhagawan's presence.

And she was the one who brought many other devotees, who was the instrument to create awareness about Bhagawan in the 60s and 70s, especially in Latin America and in the U.S., So all these devotees had gathered there to listen to her talk as well as witness a film that she had brought from India.

The film was about Bhagawan.

through the room and filling devotees with that ethereal aroma.

And as all this was happening, she says, my thoughts went back.

They went back seven years ago to the time when again Indra Devi on one of her worldwide visits to the US arrived at her home and she had brought along with her a tape recorder.

And in that, there were bhajans being sung and Erika was very fascinated listening to what Miss Indra Devi had brought and she excitedly asked her more about this person.

What prompted the journey? Well, I had always-- I'd wanted to go to India since I was 10 years old.

My mom had a book on yoga by Indra Devi, uh, who was-- I think it was like she was the first person who wrote a book on yoga and for-- yoga for the stars or whatever.

Anyways, I read the book at 10 years old, and I was particularly impressed with the introduction to her book, where she talked about how she got to India on a boat and, and there was someone sick on the boat, and some y-yogi healed them.

And anyways, I thought it was, you know, all very amazing, and I wanted to go there.

And then Swami visited the Sai Mandir at Sandhur.

There was Indra Devi, Swami's devotee from the US.

She was also there, part of the group.

And later on, she described what happened when Bhagawan went to this Sri Sai Mandir at Sandhur.
