Individualism

Yes.

Let me explain it a little bit because, and I'm doing it sort of tongue in cheek a little bit, but if you prevented me from doing constitutional change or political change and structural change or social change, I'm going to tell you that Robert Putnam's Bowling Alone, the book itself, is a brilliant commentary on the fact that Individualism in the United States has helped to create disorder because instead of going to a bowling league and me being an Episcopalian and talking to my Jewish friend who's also bowling with me, or me being a white guy talking to my black bowling companion, we now bowl individually and alone in a way that makes us not able to understand what others are going through.

And as a result, we don't have to be empathetic.

And so if you ask me what changes I would, what one institution, I'm saying it tongue in cheek, right? I would improve higher ed for sure, but I'm in that environment.

You could say there's two general mindsets, right? There's the more individualistic conditioning and the collectivist conditioning.

Individualistic is what was back in the day, which is power to the individual, meaning take responsibility, step it up.

You have the power.
