I kind of stuck to the environmental side.

But, you know, we're regulated by the IURC here in Indiana, which is the Regulatory Utility Commission.
B

And one of the things we have to do is provide proof that what we're doing is prudent and affordable for customers.
B
32:40Barry SuitsGUEST
And doing so relative particularly to the PFAS and PFOA, you know, we have to prove that not only are we investing money that comes from the company that then is – returned to us from the customer right we are applying for grants from ifa to help pay for the removal of the pfos pfoa and we were actually part of a settlement with manufacturers that we've returned you know some significant amount of money back to the customers of indiana american water uh to mitigate the cost of what we're doing with the pfoa and pf os um and and i think that does have an impact like you mentioned on the manufacturing right those settlements were big and large and they're on there's other lawsuits ongoing and so you know this whole broader bigger scale process does move the needle on you know what industries do and and what's um released to the environment from the industries.

Hi.
M
27:24MaryAUDIENCE
So I was looking up the Indiana Utility Regulatory Commission website.
M
27:28MaryAUDIENCE
They had an article about the data centers and a big picture of the state of Indiana, a map with all the dots of where they propose things are going to be.
M
27:36MaryAUDIENCE
The point that they were saying, what I understood them to say was that the data center will not have to pay a penny of their electric and water use.
M
28:10MaryAUDIENCE
I don't have a computer.
M
28:11MaryAUDIENCE
I just have this little Android phone.
M
28:13MaryAUDIENCE
But it was the Indiana Utility Regulatory Commission website because it's the Indiana Utility Regulatory Commission.

utility space um especially when we're talking about data centers and things of that nature But I just wanna highlight that there's been a lot of activity and I don't know how much we got into it back in May, last time we talked about the changes at the Indiana Utility Regulatory Commission.

As you recall, the governor had three new appointments in January Of those three, two are still around that are still a member, but there's been a leadership change at the top.

The chairman that was named the chairman of the IORC in January is no longer the chairman and no longer on the commission.

Important for us to just briefly go over, but the second part of the article, and I definitely was looking for Bridget to comment on this part, says, while a federal major disaster declaration was approved on August 25th, and state utility watchdogs have already petitioned for a local review, Mervin argued that the scale of the failure demands federal oversight, and the Indiana Office of Utility Consumer Counselor has petitioned the Indiana Utility Regulator Commission, the IURC, to examine the utility's response.
J

But Mervin's request takes aim at a broader question that has fueled constituent outrage across industrial corridor.

And in my editorial, I kind of explained to people, in fairness to the mayor, the mayors have no authority to do anything to NIPSCO.
D

This is strictly, number one, at the hands of the governor, number two, the Indiana Utility Regulatory Commission, and number three, is the state legislature that's where the buck stops and so what i tell people um when it comes to your local elected officials and this is why i like you so much a lot of local elected officials like school board members town council city council county council many of them are saying oh well that's not an issue you have to talk to your state legislator But no, as a local elected official, you can put pressure on that state legislator to say this is what's happening in our community.

And if you don't do anything to fight, then maybe you don't need to be there anymore.

In 2024, a public hearing around Centerpoint Energy's request for a $118.8 million annual electric revenue increase packed the old National Events Plaza.

The Indiana Utility Regulatory Commission approved the rate increase at $80 million, and it went into effect last year.

Citizens Action Coalition this week urged the Indiana Utility Regulatory Commission to require NIPSCO to provide full refunds plus 8% interest to the more than 4,000 customers who will double charged for gas usage for a period potentially spanning decades, coalition officials announced Friday.

The coalition also called on state regulators to prevent the utility from passing on all costs related to addressing the legacy gas meter problem, reduce NIPSCO's authorized profit margin, Thank you.

NIPSCO inappropriately labeled partial refunds on customers' bill as policy adjustment without further explanation, concealing the problem from customers.
