Independent Children's Monitor

An inquiry into the disappearance of Tom Phillips with his children has pointed to multiple shortcomings by the agency.

Independent Children's Monitor Chief Executive Aaron Jones says the findings are deeply troubling.

Unless we get to a point where we have a properly functioning, resourced and capable child protection system, the fear is we're going to have more of these tragic cases.

We need to get this culture and way of working where collaboration and sharing information is the norm.

And there are programs that are successful.

And in fact, the Children's Commissioner and Independent Children's Monitor, Ombudsman, many other people have gone to visit programs that work.

And those programs would love the opportunity to have more funding and more ability to work with our young people.

to do that early intervention and prevention and wraparound.
