DaveHOST
35:36
Went to Lollapalooza in 97.
DaveHOST
35:39
Yeah, I got to see like the only bands I didn't get to see that I still I regret I'm really still angry at my dad for not letting me and my brother go see Nirvana at the New York Coliseum in the In Utero tour.
DaveHOST
35:52
I never really had a chance to go see Alice in Chains.
DaveHOST
35:56
I think like their last show that I would have been able to see might have been 97, 98 in New York City.
EnriqueHOST
49:34
EnriqueHOST
49:59
Si no te amoldas a sus reglas puritanas, te eliminan, decía Kurt.
Gillian GaarGUEST
39:11
Not just rock stations, but other stations.
Eric SenichHOST
39:13
Yeah, then they went into in utero and they wanted something much less polished.
Eric SenichHOST
39:19
Then Nevermind chose Steve Albany to record it.
Eric SenichHOST
39:23
And you read about that in the book as well.
Gillian GaarGUEST
41:35
And, um, by then I'd interviewed Courtney.
Gillian GaarGUEST
41:37
So, you know, we chatted a bit after the show.
Gillian GaarGUEST
41:39
And then later I read that there was, um, a reporter there, uh, who said he was from New Musical Express and he talked to Courtney and Courtney took him back to, um, her home where she's living with Kurt, they're living by Washington, and plays him an advance of In Utero.
Gillian GaarGUEST
41:59
And I was so envious of that.
Dustin LeeHOST
24:10
Yeah, and I'm just reading it, and I thought like he was such an interesting character.
Dustin LeeHOST
24:15
And we, of course, um, or this was actually after we had moved to the Pacific Northwest, so it was from the same state And I remember reading the Rolling Stones back to back about him and imagining how the music sounded, and then begging my parents to get In Utero.
Dustin LeeHOST
24:31
And the first song that goes on is "Serve the Servants," and I was like, "Please, please, please sound how I think you should sound."
Matt DawsonGUEST
24:38
[laughs]
Dustin LeeHOST
24:49
I, I got a guitar.
Dustin LeeHOST
24:50
My life was over.
Matt DawsonGUEST
24:51
I, I love that so much, man, because, like, I've, I've been working on a, been working on a post about, like, kinda like my top five favorite records, and, um, In Utero is, like, probably, like, my favorite record of all time.
Matt DawsonGUEST
25:03
And "Serve the Servants," to me, is probably, like, one of the best openers.
Zac AmicoHOST
15:26
But he literally took...
Zac AmicoHOST
15:27
I think it was the In Utero tour.
Geo PerezGUEST
15:28
Is that the guy from Police Academy?
Zac AmicoHOST
15:30
Yes.
DorianHOST
21:58
You know, the dude just every night was playing his absolute dick off.
DorianHOST
22:03
So I love that you picked this one as our introduction because you could have gone with MTV Unplugged, In Utero, Nevermind, like all of these albums that are almost larger than life at this point.
DorianHOST
22:16
But I do appreciate that, you know, we kind of get to appreciate kind of the B-side, more inaccessible version of Nirvana.
DorianHOST
22:23
So shout out to you for doing that.
JakeHOST
22:27
This is my first listen to this album, even though it's like just a mix of some live stuff, a compilation, some other singles.
JakeHOST
22:37
We haven't brought up Nirvana, which is crazy on this podcast.
JakeHOST
22:41
But I was expecting if we were, it'd be like one of those Nevermind or In Utero, one of those, but... no this is one that it's like you said perfectly summed up it's like not really super accessible not very known to i guess the general fan base or population but the people that know uh the people that are in uh you know in the weeds on this album will appreciate what it has um and yeah it's it's um song you get songs like hairspray queen what it where it's kind of like this interesting vocals that he's doing but um it's it's great songs also like downer was kind of like a fast fast-paced punk feel um so it's like they're kind of doing a little bit of everything on this um and it's it's uniquely them uh it's cool that they had like the artistic freedom that they had to this album and also even doing the artwork themselves.
JakeHOST
23:36
So really cool.
GavinGUEST
39:46
So I was, I was jamming everything.
GavinGUEST
39:49
Bleach, Nevermind, In Utero, and Incesticide, and all of the little intricacies that everyone likes to try and find.
GavinGUEST
39:55
[laughs]
Megan CobainHOST
39:56
Yes.
Zac AmicoHOST
15:26
But he literally took...
Zac AmicoHOST
15:27
I think it was the In Utero tour.
Gio PerezGUEST
15:28
Is that the guy from Police Academy?
Zac AmicoHOST
15:30
Yes.

In 1992, the Peekskill Meteorite, a 27.7-pound meteorite, crashed into a parked car in Peekskill, New York.
Tim WeisbergHOST

In 1993, Nirvana's third and final album, In Utero, debuted at the top of the Billboard 200.
Tim WeisbergHOST
28:47
The broadly acclaimed album, which also topped the charts in Australia and the UK, featured such enduring tracks as "Heart-Shaped Box," "Pennyroyal Tea," "Rape Me," and "All Apologies." In 1999, Trent Reznor's Nine Inch Nails earned their first number one album when The Fragile debuted at the top spot, easily outpacing all other competitors in a market crowded with new releases.
Tim WeisbergHOST
29:06
The double album included the band's highest charting U.S. hit, "The Day the World Went Away," which peaked at number seventeen on the singles chart.
Jason MylesHOST
41:21
There's like all these exercises to me in, in, in authenticity.
Jason MylesHOST
41:28
Like, um, their second, second major label album, In Utero, was like mixed or mastered really badly by Steve, the late Steve Albini.
Jason MylesHOST
41:39
And it was all on purpose.
Jason MylesHOST
41:41
It was all a rejection of fame.
