We've already had two conferences on this, uh, during this retreat of Forming the Catholic Imagination, and in the first one, uh, Father Allen was so kind to kind of walk us through some of the thought of Benedict XVI on the, the role of, of art in the Christian way of life, and we learned about the, the wound of beauty, and there's a particularly, I think, important, um, element in that talk among the many, uh, in which the wound of beauty is something that, you know, it, we, we encounter beauty in artwork or within the liturgy, within music, where, uh, it strikes us, it transforms us, and precisely because it sort of acts as a, like a catapulting veil, if that makes any sense.

Um, but the idea is that it doesn't simply want you to look at it as object, but to lead you through into something kind of deeper or higher, uh, with regard to reality, especially with regard to God.

Uh, our second talk, um, from Father Chris, uh, going through a lot of, uh, Aquinas's epistemology, um, showed us that the, the place imagination has within this, this sort of apparatus, which is the, uh, the human body and soul composite, uh, by which we come to intellectual knowledge through what's called epistemological abstraction, uh, where we move from what is visible to what's invisible.

But if you stay in the vibration of doubt, fear or lack, then no action can help you, for you are still misaligned with the very thing you seek.

Imagination is not idle daydreaming.

It is the realm where all realities begin.

What you create in imagination and fill with emotion becomes the frequency you emit, and what you emit you attract.

Choose it with clarity, consistency and feeling.

For whatever you are tuned into internally will eventually play on the screen of your life.

Imagination is the gateway to reality.

It is not a mere escape from the world.

If אני מדמיין is I imagine, active, מדומיין is imagined, passive.

So this is an adjective, something which is מדומיין, is not real.

Such was the tenor of the second act in this new life.

Imagination slept, and yet not utterly.

I could not print ground where the grass had yielded to the steps of generations of illustrious men unmoved.

I could not always lightly pass through the same gateways.

Loath to believe what we so grieved to hear, for still we had hopes that pointed to the clouds, we questioned him again, and yet again.

But every word that from the peasant's lips came in reply, translated by our feelings, ended in this--that we had crossed the Alps.

Imagination--here the power so called through sad incompetence of human speech--that awful power rose from the mind's abyss like an unfather'd vapour that enwraps at once some lonely traveller.

I was lost, halted without an effort to break through; but to my conscious soul I now can say, I recognise thy glory.
