Around 500 tons of Hilsa, known as Ilish in Bengali, have been sent to Bangladesh in the past two months through the Petrapole Land Port on the international border in West Bengal.

Traders expect an additional 150 to 200 tons of Hilsa to be exported to Bangladesh in the coming weeks.

Traditionally, Hilsa is brought in from Bangladesh when its government allows its import, generally during the Pujo Festival.

Currently, Bangladesh has paused Hilsa exports to India.

Meanwhile, the Supreme Court today allowed Bollywood actor Rajpal Yadav's request for a last opportunity to deposit 2 crore rupees with its registry as part payment towards clearing dues owed to a production house.

A three-judge bench presided over by Chief Justice of India, Suryakant, also extended Yadav's interim protection from surrendering until 5th of October in connection with check bounce cases in which the Delhi High Court sentenced him to three months of imprisonment.
