And when I turned up at this place, please believe me, there wasn't many to peruse then, like today.

So it was in Essex.

All the boys from East London schools would come to this one in Essex.

So it was a mixture of black, white boys, some Asian boys, the odd girl.

So out of the 60 young men in there, I was probably one of the youngest.

I've been to my mum one day.

I've come out, I was living in a place called Ilford Essex.

You're not second guessing yourself.

Look, okay, am I speaking the right way? Or am I, you know, doing the right thing? It's interesting because I remember once I came to England, I think you were in Ilford at the time, and it was raining outside.

It was just like a really rainy British day.

And I went to one of the local, you know, chicken shops.

It was like there was an invisible wall somewhere around the South and North circular of London that we couldn't penetrate.

So our gigs are in like Croydon and Ilford and, It was so hard to get gigs, so I just thought, well, if I take the fanzine's name and put on gigs in central London, then I can book the bands, then I can book my own band, then we can get a gig in central London, all of which kind of worked.

So I went to the Africa Center.

I'd never even been to a gig at the Africa Center.
