Ido Oren

In February 1967, it was revealed that American Political Science Association Director Everon Kirkpatrick and Treasurer Max Campbellman were the president and vice president respectively for a CIA front organization called Operations and Policy Research Inc., which had hundreds of social scientists working covertly to promote books favorable to US foreign policy.

While previously working at the State Department, Kirkpatrick had been involved in what political scientist Ido Oren calls the orchestration of propaganda disguised as academic scholarship.

Oren notes that Kirkpatrick put his name and academic credentials on counter-propaganda books that, though published by ostensibly private imprints, were actually penned by State Department researchers.

Campbellman, in his capacity as APSA treasurer, covertly received CIA funds through conduits such as the Asia Foundation, and he and Kirkpatrick conspired to make sure that a substantial lump sum was paid from APSA to Kirkpatrick's private pension fund.
