The Prophet turned to his companions and said, "Have you ever seen such a brilliant question better than the statement of this woman in her inquiry about her religion?" The Prophet, peace be upon him, then said, "Go back, O Asma, and inform the women you represent that a woman's good treatment and cooperation with her husband or obedience to her husband, her seeking his pleasure, and her supporting his household governance equals all of those actions performed by the men combined." And there's one hadith in specific that the Prophet, peace be upon him, says, "Look, are you gonna beat your wife, hit your wife like you beat your riding animal, and then expect to sleep with her that same night?" And that hadith is interesting because Ibn Hajar, again, one of the most famous commentators, comes back, and he reads this hadith, and he says, "What is the Prophet saying here?" He explains that, well, cohabitation, right, intimacy is only desirable when you have a certain...

What do the scholars say this Hadith actually means? [gentle instrumental music]

So let's understand this Hadith at face value based on how scholars of the past have understood this Hadith.

Let's take a look at what Ibn Hajar, huge prominent Hadith commentator, scholar, comes back and says.

This Hadith is referring to a woman who is holding, withholding intimacy without a valid reason, meaning what? She's doing it out of spite.

Now they would meet with her from behind a veil as instructed by in the Quran.

Ibn Hajar al-Asqarani, he comments in his book Fath al-Bari, where he explains Sahih al-Bukhari, so that's the title of the book, Fath al-Bari fi Sharhi Sahih al-Bukhari, he says, the wisdom behind the large number of the wives of the Prophet ﷺ is that they would learn about the rulings that were not apparent and then transmit them.

A great deal of good hadiths have been narrated from Aisha and that is why some of them preferred her over the others.

Who is some of them? He's referring to the scholars.

So here, Ibn Hajar, he comments, he says, this means that he married Saudah after he had married Aisha.

But as for him moving in with her, moving in with Saudah, it actually occurred before he moved in with Aisha.
