It has vast experience supporting schools across several years in implementation strategies in public schools, international schools, and international baccalaureate programs, FYP, MYP, and DP.

And that's interesting because, you know, a lot of people might say, oh, curriculum's a barrier, but you see it as this opportunity.

I think, you know, if we look at international curriculums, MYP, PYP, I mean, they're not super restrictive and they kind of lend themselves, right? Have you found that for most, most curriculums you've worked with and when you work with teachers as well on unpacking their curriculum?

They have a choice between curriculums.
J
12:33Jon PetersonHOST
And I've heard that before from other people that I've interviewed there, that it sounds like in the middle, sometimes they don't necessarily have MYP.
J
12:40Jon PetersonHOST
They use the national curriculum or the IGCSE.
J
12:44Jon PetersonHOST
Do you know why that would be or why do you think they do
G

At the end of the day, it's like changing mindsets.
G
13:03Gayathri MehtaGUEST
it is it is making convincing parents that this curriculum is rigorous enough yeah and i think also the ib jargon can become a little difficult to explain sometimes to students of myp and like in dp of course a lot of them take their own decisions and they want to go to the international curriculum the university they want to get into university and all of that and they want they feel that the dp prepares them better for university but in myp i feel that there are still a little bit more traditional mindsets where they get caught up in the jargon of ip they do not understand why does the whole idea of concepts and conceptual understanding and learning like why is that better than a traditional system then what is the child going to write in the exam and i feel like in a lot of places the e-assessment is also not but that's of course just my perspective i feel that it's not taken as well as traditional pen and paper exam.
G

And the national curriculum is considered more rigorous for that age group as compared to the MYP.
G

That is just the perception, of course.

As part of the broader enhancing the MYP work, schools around the world were invited to begin trialing new components and to share feedback with our teams.

Today, we're going to dive into the MYP enhancement beta, what it looks like inside a school, how educators experienced it, and what it might mean for the future of the program.

To help us better understand what this looks like in practice, I'm joined by Claudia Elena Casalino from the Amsterdam International Community School, a full IB continuum school serving about 2,300 students across two campuses.

ACE has been closely involved with the MYP enhancement beta since its early days, and Claudia has been part of that work from the start.

She's been at the school for 13 years, beginning her career in the chemistry classroom, teaching MYP and DP students, and gradually moving into roles that focus less on content alone and more on how students and teachers actually experience learning.

Today, she teaches MYP integrated sciences and brings years of experience as an MYP coordinator, along with a deep commitment to wellbeing, inclusion, and thoughtful school changes.

The IB Student Experience
A
1:38Anantika NairGUEST
So we only really got introduced to the IB experience when we joined high school in ninth grade.
A
1:43Anantika NairGUEST
And then in our ninth and sophomore year, we had a complete MYP curriculum as our school's only an IB school.
A
1:49Anantika NairGUEST
We don't have any A opportunities or honors.
A
1:50Anantika NairGUEST
It's just completely IB.
A
1:52Anantika NairGUEST
And during those years, we went through the personal project, all our MYP requirements.
A
1:56Anantika NairGUEST
And then all of that was before we finally transitioned to our diploma program for our upperclassmen years.
A
