Somewhat predictably, given Reform UK's pugnacious approach, we have had that party's leader in Scotland, Lord Malcolm Offord, use the word nuts in his criticism of the income tax system north of the border.

Mr Davis' points around the other things that matter seem well made.

And while government, councils and businesses should heed what he is saying about the importance of delivering across the key areas he highlights, it is heartening to hear his view that Scotland has a huge amount going for it.
