Ian Brayshaw

Uh, you had a very long stint as a commentator with the ABC, and, uh, wondered how that came about and, uh, some of the highlights of, of that.

Well, Dennis Lillee broke Richie Benaud's record, and Ian Brayshaw was working full-time ABC.

And I was working in the Commonwealth Bank at South Perth, and Ian rang and said, "Look, I'm doing... compiling a, a program about Dennis breaking Richie Benaud's record, and we're talking to players who played with Dennis and against Dennis.

Thought I'd come out and, and do an interview with you." And I said, "Yeah, sure." So he came out to the bank.

And so Rick Charlesworth started, myself, and Tony Lock on the first day.

But prior to that, I thought you'd have to go and have a voice test and be given some guidelines and what have you.

George Greville said... gave me a ring and just said, "Oh, um, oh, mate, George Greville says, here, um, Ian Brayshaw tells me I think you might be interested in doing some commentary.

Do you think you can do it?" Well, I didn't know whether I could do it or not, but I said, "Yes, I think so." And, uh, that was it.
