I Love L.A.

October 26th, Turner Broadcasting launches Cable Music Channel, a music video channel intended to compete directly with MTV.

The first video played is I Love LA by Randy Newman, and the channel would last 34 days.

MTV shut that shit down.

Man, Ted Turner wasn't even strong enough.

Woo!

There's a montage with I Love L.A. playing.

Yeah, Randy

Newman's I Love L.A.

Killing

people.

you.

These are lyrics to I Love L.A. by Randy Newman.

Oh, I know.

Yeah,

I thought that we'd have an opportunity to match.

I thought that he wanted to stay a Met, and then I wake up one day and he's singing Randy Newman's song, I Love LA." So was that something where you backed your owner, Steve Cohen, in terms of his view of the situation?

Hmm.

Well-

Ugh, God, I love- Pretty good ...

the Randy Newman song, "I Love LA." God, what a great tune.

It's just- Yeah, this is so organic.

Like, you could pick it up at New Seasons.

It's really fun.

It's just so catchy.

What do you think about I Love LA, Brian? I know you love LA the city, but what do you think about I Love LA the song by Randy Newman, one of our great songwriters?

Well, my organic opinion is that I associate it with the Los Angeles Dodgers, and as such, it is tainted.

Like, nothing else really compares.

And Randy Newman also wrote the song "I Love LA," which plays after every Dodgers win, so-

"I love LA"

... that's very, that's very important to me.

God bless Randy Newman.

... and, um, with jinxes and curses.

And I, I like, I really held back from queuing up Randy Newman's, uh, I Love LA 'cause I thought if I-

Yep

... cued him up that I was assuming we were gonna win.

...

I Love LA.

I mean, Carl sings, Carl sings this wonderful r- uh, refrain that, uh, it, it sold me when, when we were writing it.

I said, "Carl, can, can you sing this particular part?" And, you know, he went out there and knocked it out of the park.
