So when I saw Sing stinging it, when I saw Sing stinging it, when I saw Sing singing it with Petey, I was like, who's this guy singing with Puff Daddy? Who is it? And why is he saying the words wrong? I'll Be Watching You.

June 14th.

Puff Daddy and the Families I'll Be Missing You is number one on the Hot 100 for 11 weeks, only to be replaced by Mo Money Mo Problems, which I'm sure we'll talk about later in this episode.

June 29th, Missy Elliott releases the single The Rain, Supa Dupa Fly from her debut album, Supa Dupa Fly.

Now, when Missy came out, I remember thinking, oh, she's kind of cool.

Juan Tanamera, Wyclef, and Cecilia Cruz.

Can't Nobody Hold Me Down, Puffy and Mace.

And then what wins is I'll Be Missing You, Puffy, Faith, and 112.

Huh.

Yeah.

And then another one is an original Puff Daddy, uh, called I'll Be Missing You.

And please don't get any amount of controversy about that.

And just so you know, too, I'll Be Missing You is also an original going back to the '80s or '90s-

I mean, I think all those four bands released huge albums in 97, didn't they? But also in 97, Homework, Daft Punk, 13 Blur, Ladies and Gentlemen, Floating in Space by Spiritualized, OK Computer, The Fat of the Land, Radiator by Superhands, which I really loved.

Super Duper Fly, Missy Elliott, New Forms by Ronnie Sizer, Mercury Prize, Spice World, I'll Be Missing You was number one for about 10 years.

Also, I'll Be Missing You and so I think it was the year that Biggie and Tupac, I think Tupac died before Biggie, if I'm not mistaken.

Yeah.

But yeah, I'll Be Missing You came out.

To use an old industry example, many of your listeners, I know this is not the flavor of the month, most certainly not, but it's a good example to use.

When Diddy sampled Sting's Every Breath You Take, and turned it into his song, which was called I'll Be Missing You.

And it was just a guitar line, really, but a very well-known guitar line that was written by the police.

And Diddy went ahead and used it to create his version without permission.
