I Bet You Look Good on the Dancefloor

It was good for selling copies.

So there was that sense of, like... could be quite difficult to tell is like is this actually exciting and popular or is this what is going on in the press just you know do they need to sell a few extra copies this week are these bands are just going to fall apart very quickly but i think it became really clear i think from just the quality of the material and the quality of i think you know for me it was all about turner and his and his lyrics you know the fact that he was referencing Romeo and Juliet in I Bet You Look Good on the Dance Floor.

And he was...

I can't remember how old he is, but he was super young at that time.

Congratulations.

Thank you.

One of my core memories was being Bluetoothed the music video for I Bet You Look Good on the Dance Floor.

on the playground by some kid that I'd never met.

This, I would say, is a high-water mark in that I would argue it is the first number one hit of the landfill indie era.

We've had indie number ones before, two for Arctic Monkeys, I Bet You Look Good on the Dancefloor, and When the Sun Goes Down.

I think they are the last number ones of the sort of indie boom.

This is the first number one of the indie bust.

Question number two from Sheffield.

The Arctic Monkeys' I Bet You Look Good On The Dancefloor-

Yes

...

... you know, Yorkshire accent heavy.

I think I would know all the words to and could sing I Bet You Look Good on the Dancefloor.

Mm.

I think I could do that.

But what was at number one? Yeah.

It was the Arctic Monkeys with I Bet You Look Good on the Dance Floor.

And that was the one that beat them to the anthem of the summer also.

Okay.
