Wow.
R
51:18RMCHOST
Also, we saw that, what's the town? Hyrule Castle Town? Yeah.
R
51:24RMCHOST
It's now fully 3D.
R
51:25RMCHOST
If you'll remember from the original game, it was pre-rendered backgrounds that you ran through, but now you'll be able to fully run through, and it will have new areas as well.
R
52:46RMCHOST
One of the reasons I like Marvel movies a lot is because they, I feel, largely are not afraid to be comic book movies.
R
52:56RMCHOST
They're not afraid, or they're not ashamed to be what they are in the comics and embrace that stuff rather than trying to be like, we need to... gussy this up for audiences and I think Nintendo does that a lot with their games when they bring them back they don't feel the need to do any of that stuff or they don't even have a desire to do it I don't know that they even really question that stuff because it's not really their DNA

S
15:11Scott TailfordHOST
It's the little, the little town, the little village that's in front of, uh, Hyrule Castle.
S
15:14Scott TailfordHOST
And, uh, during the presentation, they're like, "Hey, look, we've remade this entire, you know, town square.
S
15:19Scott TailfordHOST
But also, we only had pre-rendered backgrounds in the past.

S

And no, like, somebody had to, like, completely make this game from scratch.
S
9:40Sam ClaibornHOST
And I think the best example is, is, is the Hyrule Castle Town.
J
9:44Justin DavisHOST
Yeah.
S
9:45Sam ClaibornHOST
Like, that is unrecognizable except for who's there, where, like, you know, like the shops are, and then, like, but you know, it's, it's a, it's a com- you- it's not even built in any way related to how the original Castle Town was built, which is, like, a, a matte drawing, you know, made into pixels that has a fixed camera like Resident Evil.
S
11:05Sam ClaibornHOST
Yeah, he can't climb everything
J
11:06Justin DavisHOST
... sh- and, and, like, I'm trying to explain to her.
J
11:08Justin DavisHOST
She's like, "So I can go to the Hyrule Castle that I see in the distance?" I'm like, "Yes, but also no." [laughs]
S

R

R
27:09RebeccaHOST
That to me was the moment that I said, this is really special.
R
27:14RebeccaHOST
Yeah.
R
27:16RebeccaHOST
you know, just the fact, and I was hoping so bad that, you know, we would have that full camera rotation of Hyrule Castle, but I feel like they went even beyond that.
R
27:25RebeccaHOST
Like if you look, you know, when I was going back and kind of looking at it a little bit closer, there seems to be more characters with quest lines that are brand new.
R
27:35RebeccaHOST
Like there's a lady standing there.

obviously faster exactly exactly um but yeah now speedrunners have an even better option which is just dashing the whole time uh which obviously makes things you know much more much more fun and easier to get across that giant expanse and i do i do think that um you know we discussed this idea of the opening up into hyrule field and like how epic it felt in the original game when you were younger all that sort of thing and even though it is the same size i think they there's something they've done to make it still have that sense of grandeur it's the lighting it's the way that like things are framed in the distance it's the trees it's
B
16:33BallyHOST
yeah it's really well done i'm i'm so shocked at how they've been with this perspective of stuff like Hyrule Castle, Death Mountain, and the other points of interest you can kind of see.
B
16:45BallyHOST
And the hills are definitely adding something, and then that combined with the trees and the foliage, there is just like a...
B
16:52BallyHOST
there is a level of depth to hyrule field but as you say even when you see the map it's obviously exactly the same size and exactly the same shape

I remember when w- w- when we wrote the guide for the game, one of the areas that people got stuck on was specifically meeting, I think it's, uh, it's Malon, right? Like, you meet Malon in, um, uh, near Hyrule Castle, and, like, you had to-- in the original, you had to meet her at night.
L
11:20Logan PlantHOST
Yes.
B
11:20Brian AltanoPANELIST

Then we get a call out here that the sun is setting and the explanation that time passes no matter where you are, which is a change from the original game when you were in the castle town or in Hyrule Castle itself.
P
42:31Patrick EllersHOST
That time didn't pass.
P
42:33Patrick EllersHOST
It was either day or it was night, and it would not change until you went back out again.
P
42:37Patrick EllersHOST
into the field um uh and so they they say that time passes again uh no matter where you are and they mentioned that specifically in the context of hyrule castle town but do we also think they mean like when you're in a dungeon time keeps passing yeah i mean maybe why not i don't know especially once you're able to kind of like control that sort of thing yeah totally
M
43:00Mark MitchellHOST
uh yeah
P
43:03Patrick EllersHOST
And of course, they show us Link controlling the passage of time by playing the Song of the Sun and making the moon go down and the sun come up.
