Some people's memories let them relive any day of their lives in detail.

A handful of individuals have what's called highly superior autobiographical memory, HSAM, the ability to recall the events of almost any day in their lives with astonishing clarity.

Ask them about a random date from decades ago, and they can describe the weather, what they wore, and what they were doing, often with more detail than a diary could hold.

Brain scans suggest subtle differences in regions involved in memory storage and retrieval, though the exact cause of HSAM is still unknown.

While this ability might sound like a gift, many with HSAM say it can be overwhelming, as unwanted memories are just as vivid as pleasant ones.
