Hutch Organised Crime Gang

So it sounds like a small thing for Guard to lift a bit of information and tip off their friends that, you know, you've got a bit of a problem with a speeding offence or whatever it happens to be.

But actually, one of the most serious issues involving the anti-corruption unit, which has only been set up in recent years within the Garda, is the arrest of senior members of the force who have been accused and including a couple convicted of involvement in the activities of one of the main drugs gangs in the city, which was involved in the feud, the Hutch gang involved in the Hutch-Kinnahan feud that led to 18 deaths over a couple of years, some years ago.

So that investigation actually is ongoing and other Guardi are facing charges arising from their involvement in those activities.

So it's not a huge jump between people accused of misusing the Pulse system and actually providing information to very well-resourced criminal gangs.

So do you think that the work of the anti-corruption unit sort of holds up to scrutiny at this point?

Well, in the case I've just mentioned, there clearly has...

I mean, this guard that was involved, a guard that called Murphy, was involved in... direct dealings with senior members of the Hutch gang.

That was one of the allegations and it was proven because it turned out that he had a large stash of cannabis or grass or marijuana in his house in Clontarf, which obviously meant that he had direct dealings with some criminal gang.

The son of Gerry the Monk Hutch has lost his appeal against extradition to Ireland, where he faces charges under anti-gang legislation and is accused of being part of a corruption ring involving Gardaí passing information to the Hutch organised crime group.

Jason Hutch has said he has no case to answer and his lawyer says he was only targeted because of his father's election bid.

Yeah, so, I mean, we haven't, he hasn't appeared in court in Ireland,

obviously, at this point, so we haven't heard full details of it.

His fiancée, Jana, was supposed to come with him, but there was an issue with his passport, so she had to, to follow the next day.

So he, he checked into the Bonnington, like you say, previously the Regency, which we're all aware of from the murder at the Regency three years previously, where one of the Kinahan lieutenants was, was murdered by the Hutch Gang.

So it's kind of a, a well-known hotel on the north side of Dublin.

It had been rebranded as the Bonnington, I think because of, uh, they, they all wanted to move away from the Regency tag.

Well, this guy in Ireland is getting to take him out then, isn't he?
