Hushai

Verse 32.

While David was coming up to the summit where God was worshipped, behold, Hushai the archite came to meet him with his coat torn and dirt on his head.

David said to him, If you go on with me, you will be a burden to me.

But if you return to the city and say to Absalom, I will be your servant, O king, as I have been your father's servant in time past, so now I will be your servant.

Behold, their two sons are with them there, Ahamaz, Zadok's son, and Jonathan, Abiathar's son.

And by them you shall send to me everything you hear.

So Hushai, David's friend, came into the city just as Absalom was entering Jerusalem.

This is the word of the Lord.

Ahimaaz, in Naphtali.

He had taken Basimath the daughter of Solomon as his wife, Baanah the son of Hushai in Asher and Baaloth, Jehoshaphat the son of Paruah in Issachar, Shimei the son of Elah in Benjamin, Geber the son of Uri in the land of Gilead, the country of Sihon king of the Amorites and of Og king of Bashan.

And there was one governor who was over the land.

They ate and drank and were happy.

He and Jehiel, son of Hachmoni, were in charge of the education of the king's sons.

Ahithophel was an advisor to the king, and Hushai, the archite, was the king's friend and counselor.

After Ahithophel died, Abiathar and Jehoiada son of Benaiah became advisors.

Joab was commander of the royal army.

They played a very important role.

So, you know, the main characters, David, Absalom, Jonathan, Joab, Amasa, Hushai, Ahithophel, and they're very important characters.

But the wench and the lad and the woman, you know, we just read this in passing, but they're very important.

So one of these was used to protect and save David.

Now, you have to remember this.

Back then, They had counselors who had a lot of power.

One's name was Hushai.

The other was Ahithophel.

And David said, O Lord, please turn the counsel of Ahithophel into foolishness.

then you will defeat for me the council of Ahithophel.

Are not Zadok and Abiathar the priests with you there? So whatever you hear from the king's house, tell it to Zadok and Abiathar the priests.

Behold, their two sons are with them there, Ahimaaz, Zadok's son, and Jonathan, Abiathar's son, and by them you shall send to me everything you hear." So Hushai, David's friend, came into the city just as Absalom was entering Jerusalem.

And the following traits that we're going to study from the life of David will begin in 2 Samuel 17, verse 7.

The Bible says, "...and Hushai said unto Absalom, The counsel that Ahithophel hath given is not good at this time." 4 For said, Who shalt thou knowest, thy father and his men, that they be mighty men, and they be chafed in their minds, as a bear robbed of her whelps in the field? 5 And thy father is a man of war, and will not lodge With the people.

That's a great verse.

Chafed in the mind.

So shall we come upon him in some place where he shall be found, and we will light upon him as the dew falleth on the ground.

And of him and of all the men that are with him there shall not be left so much as one." Moreover, if he be gotten into a city, then shall all Israel bring ropes to that city, and we will draw it into the river until there be not one small stone found there.

And Absalom and all the men of Israel said, the counsel of Hushai the archite is better than the counsel of Ahithophel.

For the Lord had appointed to defeat the good counsel ahithophel to the intent that the lord might bring evil upon absalom so what's occurring in this scene absalom is trying to overthrow his father's throne he's getting counsel from these different men about battle preparation and how are we going to approach this situation and how are we going to take david down And the Lord sends this man to be a counselor to overthrow the wisdom so that they lose the battle.

And they are described as being Mar Nefesh mutinous.

In Shmuel B's chapter 17, sentence 8, a man named Hushai is a secret ally of David, and he describes David's allies, too, of Shalom as Mare Nefesh.

You have to see the story there.

So Mare Nefesh can mean these are people who are miserable.

Now Absalom and all the people, the men of Israel, came to Jerusalem, and Ahithophel with him.

And when Hushai the archite, David's friend, came to Absalom, Hushai said to Absalom, Long live the king! Long live the king! And Absalom said to Hushai, Is this your loyalty to your friend? Why did you not go with your friend? And Hushai said to Absalom, No, for whom the Lord and this people and all the men of Israel have chosen, his I will be, and with him I will remain.

And again, whom should I serve? Should it not be his son? As I have served your father, so I will serve you.

Then Absalom said to Ahithophel, Give your counsel, what shall we do? Ahithophel said to Absalom, Go in to your father's concubines, whom he has left to keep the house, and all Israel will hear that you have made yourself a stench to your father, and the hands of all who are with you will be strengthened.
