American Fool produces the singles Hurts So Good and Jack and Diane, the latter of which was one of the songs that the A&R guy from Riva listened to and was basically like, "I don't want to work with you anymore." Hurts So Good hits number two on the Billboard Hot 100.

Jack and Dan hits number one.

American Fool hits number one on the US album charts, and John Cougar wins the Grammy for Best Male Rock Vocalist for Hurts So Good.
