Hunter Greene

I think it's a little different with starting pitching.

The Reds were able to do it with Hunter Green.

They were just recently able to do it with Chase Burns.

But there's already a lot more risk involved with starting pitchers and pitchers in general.

Chase Burns, if his innings are handled fine, is a Cy Young candidate.

We know what Hunter Green could do.

That's why it's just so inexcusable how porous they are as a team year in and year out.

But yeah, Pittsburgh, I forgot that Lau's a free agent.

I think the Reds, first of all, they got to get their pitching staff healthy, and they've also got to get them beyond a certain point that they get to.

Hunter Green was seen as one of the top pitchers in the game, an ace candidate, somebody that could really anchor that rotation for a long time.

They extended him, and he really hasn't stayed healthy.

And when he has been healthy, I'm sorry, he just doesn't have that it he's good he can shut you down for a game but you know what i'm talking about he doesn't have that it that makes him different that makes him the guy that can go out and get you that win now chase burns might but other guys just have never taken off in that rotation like you know lodolo williamson i mean They've had a lot of bites at the apple, and I just don't think we've seen a lot of these guys ever take that next development step and, you know, sink into being a nice, consistent starting pitcher.

Chase Burns has.

Hunter Green did, but got hurt.

Everyone else has kind of been a stutter start really good performance really not good performance and as on offense I just honestly think that they push their youth into service very early and Then they give up on them almost as quickly as they push them into service I just don't think that's a good way to run a club and you're certainly never going to get what you want to get out of young players if that's the way you handle them and then also, you know, I mean listen I they're a team that somehow found a way during a a pseudo playoff run in 2025 to convince themselves that taking on cabrian hayes contract and the years that came with it were going to push them over the edge instead of help anchor them to the bottom so stupidity maybe played a role.

They're not good.

The velocity numbers are absurd, dude.

When you look at this way, and we spent all year talking about it, so it almost feels like, how much more Miz Glaze can they throw this way? But the fastball average, 100.6 miles per hour, ahead of Hunter Green and Bubba Chandler.

They're at 98.3.

He has thrown 1,211 triple-digit fastballs compared with the previous single-season benchmark, which was 723 by Roldis Chapman back in 2016.

I think if you go get yourself a really good starting pitcher, you once again feel good about the rotation.

Hunter Green can take his time.

Obviously he's not going to be here at all next year, but yeah, For the injuries that are likely to happen to Nick Lodolo or Andrew Abbott or Brandon Williamson or Rhett Lowder in spring training or, God forbid, Chase Burns, you would still feel good about having a guy like Joe Ryan in your rotation.

And then you would knock a Williamson or a Lowder maybe into the bullpen or AAA or whatever that might be.

but they have a lot of they have a lot of holes they got to fill i mean you got a pitching you have a starting pitching staff that everybody step took a step back other than chase burns you don't have hunter green at all next year you don't have brady singer at this moment and unless you're going to spend 24 million dollars for him which i hope to god is not your plan um You have no true real DH spot.

You still have a black hole offensively at third base.

And...

We're getting guys back.

Our starting pitching is phenomenal.

You know, Hunter Green started off on the DL, but you're going to get him back.

You got Andrew Abbott, who was an all-star last year.

Yeah.

Everything seems kind of scary compared to where we were a year ago when we were, like, left losing in the playoffs to the Dodgers and you're like, "Oh, man, Chase Burns is coming up and Hunter Greene's coming up and Rhett Lowder's gonna be back and Nick Lodolo, like, you know," and Andrew Abbott was just an all-star, and Nick Lodolo, maybe he finally figures out this blister thing.

We thought they had 10 starters, yeah?
